Good morning to the honorable judges, the loyal time keeper, teachers and

my fellow friends.

Today, I am going to tell a story about “King Midas”.

Once upon a time in a far kingdom, there lived a king and his beautiful
daughter called Marigold. He loved her very much. She was everything to
him.

King Midas was a really rich man. He had a lot of gold. But he was a greedy
man too. The more he had the more he wanted.

One day, while he was counting his gold as usual, out of nowhere appeared
a weird looking old man. King Midas was stunned.

“King Midas!” The old man said. “You really love gold, don’t you King Midas?”

“Yes! Indeed, I do!” exclaimed King Midas. “I love gold so much that I wish
everything I touch will turn to gold”.

The old man asked the king, “Are you sure?” The king replied, “Yes.” So, the
old man said, “Starting tomorrow morning with the sun rays you will get the
golden touch.”

The king thought, this couldn’t be true.

But the next day when he woke up, he touched the bed, his clothes, and
everything turned to gold. He looked out of the window and saw his
daughter playing in the garden. He decided to give her a surprise and
thought she would be happy.

But before he went to the garden, he decided to read a book. The moment
he touched it, it turned into gold and he couldn’t read it. Then he sat to have
breakfast and the moment he touched the fruit and the glass of water, they
turned to gold.

He was getting upset and he said to himself, “I can’t eat and drink gold. I
can’t live like this. I am hungry. I am tired. Everything I touch turned to
gold,” cried King Midas.

Just about that time his daughter came up and he smiled to her. He was
delighted to see her. He reached out and wanted to hug her. But, guess
what? His beautiful daughter Marigold turned into a gold statue. King Midas
traumatized.

The king bowed his head and started crying. Then, the old man who gave
the wish came again. He asked King Midas if he was happy with his golden
touch. The king said he was the most miserable man.

The old man asked, “What would you rather have, your food and loving
daughter or your touch of gold and her golden statue?” The king cried and
asked for forgiveness. He said, “I will give up all my gold. Please give me
back my daughter. I love her so much. Without her I have nothing. I don’t
want gold. I don’t need gold. All I want in my life is my daughter. I want her
back.”

The old man said to the king, “You have become wiser than before. You shall
have your daughter back.” With a blink of his eyes, he reversed the spell.
King Midas got his daughter back in his arms and the king learned a lesson
that he will never forget for the rest of his life.

That is all about King Midas and his golden touch and how he became to be
a wiser king.

So, what are the morals of the story?

First, always be grateful and thankful with what you have. Second, do
not ask for something that you do not know the cost. Third, greedy
person always ends up losing everything. Lastly, your life and family
are much more valuable than gold or money.

That’s all for now. Thank you so much for your attention.
