ABSTRACT

MEP Design

Designed Energy efficient, highly reliable and Power quality tolerant very complex MEP industrial
and commercial installation, office, residential, IT complexes

Power quality Audit and Management

Power quality is process of powering and grounding a piece of equipment in a manner for its
satisfactory operation .Voltage and current quality decides overall power quality .Wiring and
grounding of sensitive Electronic Equipments in addition to voltage quality parameters governs
operational, efficiency and life performance of equipments .Immunity of equipment is decided by
Voltage quality parameters .Emission is current quality contribution by equipment
operation .Compatibility of sensitive Equipments with Voltage variation is key for reliable , efficient
operation .Small power quality abnormality leads to malfunction /failure of equipments leading to
process disruption resulting into huge Financial loss .Compliance to National and international
standard to limit emissions within recommended limit is statutory requirement .Power quality is a
highly specialized area and domain expert only can provide cost effective power quality solutions to
solve immunity and emission problems.

Energy Audit and Management

Holistic (holism) implies an approach or process, which enables integration of multiple streams. The
Holistic Energy Management model, is capable to macro-observe the energy streams within and
around processes, optimally combining the inputs and outputs in a unique way that filters all decisions
through ROI boundaries.

ANALYSIS
3.1 Power Quality Analyzer PQ3100

HIOKI portable power meters and analyzers are best in class power measuring instruments for
measuring single to three-phase lines with a high degree of precision and accuracy. The PQ3100 is a
comprehensive but easy-to-use power quality analyzer for monitoring and recording power supply
anomalies, allowing their causes to be quickly investigated, and also for assessing power supply
problems such as voltage drops, flicker, harmonics, and other electrical issues.

The HIOKI PQ3100 Power Quality Analyzer measures all power parameters including voltage,
current, power, harmonics, and flicker simultaneously along the same time axis, giving it the ability to
capture all power anomalies such as intermittent power interruptions, voltage drops and frequency
fluctuations while recording the power trend.

Instantaneous voltage drops may be caused by the periodic start and operation of a heater or
other equipment with a high inrush current connected to the power supply line.
The PQ3198 Power Quality Analyzer can analyze periodic voltage drops to identify the electric
equipment that is causing it. Frequent voltage dips can stress uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). By
observing power waveforms over several days and analyzing behavior with the Power Quality
Analyzer PQ3198, remedial measures can be taken.

6
Dr.B.E. Kushare and Associates, Nashik

 Measure with the power quality analyzer at the required period of time. If you would like to
meet the demand time, set the recording interval to 30 mins (or 15 mins)
 Load the measurement data to the PQ ONE.
 You can do the TDD setting from PQ ONE’s "Option" tab.
 In PQ ONE’s "Trend graph/Harmonics" tab, choose "TDD" from the drop down menu.

There is no way to avoid a voltage dip caused by lightning hitting a high-voltage system. This also
causes a voltage dip in the low-voltage circuit so utility users need to take measures.
A dip event function of the PQ3198 Power Quality Analyzer is useful in detecting a voltage dip. The
dip event function detects a voltage dip when the voltage RMS value falls below the threshold.
When a dip event occurs, it records the changes in the RMS value during a period of 0.5 s before the
event and during a period of 29.5 s after the event and the instantaneous waveforms during a period of
200 ms when the event occurs. A transient voltage is generated by a lightning strike, a contact fault, a
melting circuit breaker, or a relay that causes a voltage change. High voltages occur especially near the
source where the power supply is damaged and reset operations are triggered.

The process of measuring energy savings is known as “Measurement & Verification” or

“M&V” whereby measurement technologies are used to reliably identify the actual savings created as
a result of energy saving measures.  Although energy savings cannot be directly measured because that
represents the absence of energy consumption, you can determine the effects of energy saving
measures by comparing the energy cost before and after the installation of new equipment such as a
solar or photovoltaic (PV) panels.

M&V activities include, among others:

• Installing meters
• Gathering data
• Developing computation methods to analyze data and plotting it against energy rates
• Reporting and quality assurance efforts

Often it is necessary to report to a customer or third party of the effects of the energy saving measures;
in any case, it is always wise to verify that any new installed equipment is successful in cutting energy
costs. When verifying the effectiveness of PV equipment in reducing energy costs, the simplest way is
to compute savings in monetary units based on the same energy usage before and after the installation.
This method is sufficient for a typical household.  However, large industrial facilities that invest
heavily in energy savings equipment operate on a scale such that close monitoring of power
consumption and energy conversion can lead to huge savings.  In addition, some power utilities
provide incentive programs to buy back any excess energy a PV system generates.  This further
increases the savings, but complicates the computations even more.

A longer and thinner wire results in a larger drop in load voltage caused by wiring impedance in
relation to the power supply voltage, which will have an impact on other equipment.
A dip event function of HIOKI’s Power Quality Analyzer PQ3198 is effective in detecting a voltage
drop.

3.2 Power Quality Analyzer PQ3198

PQ3198 detects the dip event when the voltage RMS value falls below the threshold value.
When a dip event occurs, the PQ3198 records changes in the RMS value during a period of 0.5 second
before the event and during a period of 29.5 seconds after the event, as well as instantaneous
waveforms during a period of 200 ms when the event occurs.

3.3 Power Quality Analyzer PQ3360

The PW3360 Clamp On Power Logger is a compact, 3-phase 4-wire energy logger utilizing clamp
sensor input to accurately and safely measure power on single-phase to three-phase lines.  The
illustration shows how 2 power loggers can provide the information necessary to aid in the M&V
process:

1. Measure between the distribution panel and utility meter the amount of electricity sold to the utility
company and purchased by the customer simultaneously.  The data will also enable you to confirm
that the PV system is in good operating condition.
2. Compute electricity charges by specifying the unit cost (per kWh) so that the PW3360 can multiply
the electricity charge unit cost by the active energy (power consumption) WP+ value.
3. Measure the output of the system’s power conditioner to display voltage and frequency changes in
order to verify correct operation of relays.
4. Use the demand and energy fluctuation graphs to verify operation of the PV system in real time and
make equipment adjustments where necessary to continuously optimize the system.

3.4 IR Testo 871 (Thermography Camera)

We developed the testo 871 thermal imager together with our experienced professionals to enable you

Assist and testo ScaleAssist mean you can avoid measurement errors and not only effortlessly achieve
optimum setting of emissivity (ɛ) and reflected temperature (RTC) for building thermography, but also
of colour scale.

 The testo 871 thermal imager– smart and networked

The testo 871 thermal imager communicates wirelessly via WLAN with your mobile terminal devices.
The testo Thermography App for iOS and Android offers you the possibility of writing and sending
reports on site, as well as saving them online, and of using your smartphone or tablet as a second
display or for remote control.

The testo 871 delivers even more informative thermal images in combination with the compatible 770-
3 clamp meter and the testo 605i thermohy grometer. Both are available separately – simply order
them straight away along with your testo 871. The measurement results of both measuring instruments
can easily be transmitted via Bluetooth. The additional output, current and voltage values of the testo
770-3 clamp meter enable better interpretation of measured temperatures. Measure the air temperature

special humidity palette in the thermal imager via the traffic light principle.

 Areas of application of the testo 871 thermal imager

Detect leaks, pinpoint thermal bridges, discover structural defects, identify overheated connections or
assess mould damage. The testo 871 thermal imager is ideal for applications in daily maintenance and
installation work in trade and industry. Quick, simple and reliable for maintenance and detection of
defects.
