1. INTRODUCTION
2. HISTORY
AutoCAD was derived from a program begun in 1977 and released in 1979[5] called Interact
CAD, also referred to in early Autodesk documents as MicroCAD, which was written prior to
Autodesk’s (then Marinchip Software Partners) formation by Autodesk cofounder Mike
Riddle.
The first version by the AutoDesk company was demonstrated at the 1982 Comdex and
released that December.[8] The 2015 release marked the 29th major release for the AutoCAD
for Windows. The 2014 release marked the fourth consecutive year for AutoCAD for Mac.

LANGUAGES:
AutoCAD 2014 and AutoCAD LT 2014 are available for English, German, French, Italian,
Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional and Brazilian Portuguese,
Russian, Czech, Polish, Hungarian will be available later on. The extent of localization varies
from full translation of the product to documentation only.
The AutoCAD command set is localized as a part of the software localization.
EXTENSIONS:
AutoCAD supports a number of APIs for customization and automation. These include
AutoLISP, Visual LISP, VBA, NET and ObjectARX. ObjectARX is a C++ class library, which
was also the base for: (a) products extending AutoCAD functionality to specific fields; (b)
creating products such as AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Civil 3D;
or (c) third-party AutoCAD-based application. There are a large number of AutoCAD plugins
(add-on applications).
4. AUTOCAD WINDOW
Once you have started AutoCAD and have either started a new drawing or opened an existing
drawing, you will see the AutoCAD application window. Take some time to become familiar
with how this window is organized.
The AutoCAD program window is divided into various parts
Application menu
Quick Access toolbar
InfoCenter
Ribbon
Drawing area
UCS icon (User Coordinate System icon)
Command window
Status bar
The figure shows a typical layout of the AutoCAD program window. You can organize the
AutoCAD window into any arrangement you want and save it as a workspace. You can save
and recall a workspace at any time using the Workspace Switching tool in the Quick Access
toolbar.
In the upper-left corner of the AutoCAD program window, the red AutoCAD icon features the
Application menu, which offers a set of options not directly related to drawing.
The Quick Access toolbar at the top of the drawing area includes the basic file-handling
functions that you find in nearly all Windows programs. The InfoCenter is AutoCAD’s online
help facility. The Ribbon provides nearly all the commands you’ll need using icon tools.
The drawing area occupies most of the screen. The ViewCube is primarily for 3D modeling.
Navigation bar along the right edge of the AutoCAD window, offers tools you can use to get
around in your drawing. Basic tools like Zoom and Pan can be found here as well as some
advanced tools for viewing 3D models. The Command window, located just below the drawing
area, gives you feedback about AutoCAD’s commands as you use them. You can move and
resize this window just as you move and resize other display components. By default, the
Command window is in its docked position.
After you launch AutoCAD, click the Start Drawing button to begin a new drawing .
AutoCAD includes a standard tabbed ribbon across the top of the drawing area. You can access
nearly all the commands presented in this guide from the Home tab. In addition, the Quick
Access toolbar shown below includes familiar commands such as New, Open, Save, Print,
Undo, and so on.
If the Home tab is not the current tab, go ahead and click it.

5.FILE MANAGEMENT
Manage drawings together with related project documents, files, and communications in a
unified project document management system. An intuitive integration with Autodesk
AutoCAD allows you to:
Manage project files, including drawings, image files, X-Refs, and other documents with a
master-dependent file relationship. Use Title Block values and other drawing attributes to
categorize files Improve collaboration with version notes, notifications, and requests for
approval on check-in. Use AutoCAD drawing Title Block values to profile drawings on import.
Document Locator includes Profile Properties designed specifically for use with AutoCAD
drawing files. When applied to AutoCAD drawings on import, these special properties read the
information embedded in a drawing file’s title block and uses it to profile the file in Document
Locator.
AutoCAD's dimensioning tools can automatically measure distances and place dimensions
on your drawing. You can simply select objects and let AutoCAD add the appropriate
dimensions, or you can tell AutoCAD what type of dimension you want to place and what
object or points you wish to dimension.
Annotation objects include dimensions, notes, and other types of explanatory symbols or
objects commonly used to add information to your drawing. Annotation objects provide
information about a feature, such as the length of a wall, the diameter of a fastener, or a detail
callout.
7.commands
This software is specifically designed with technical drawing in mind, so you’ll find a wide
range of geometric shapes and sketching capabilities at your disposal when working in
AutoCAD. To save yourself the time of scrolling through the library every time you need a
particular line or solid, learn some of these commands

9.ADVANTAGES
Draw to Scale. One of the main benefits of AutoCAD is that it allows you to draw to
scale.
Easy Layout and Viewing.
Draw Accurately
Make Changes Easily and Reduce Risk of Error
Identify Design Problems.
Calculate Material Quantities for Production.
Store and Transfer Data Safely
Save Time and Money.
10.DISADVANTAGES
I have found the internship interesting as it provided us with thenecessary skills required by
civil engineers in
office. It was anopportunity for me to interact with different people who contributed their
guidance to me. The consulting body directedme towards tough tasks but those with
appropriate practical knowledge could have overcome the engineering problemsover the course
of the internship. I gained not only practical but also theoretical knowledge. If you go on
internship with highclass company or institution, you will get acquainted with the translation
of something in books into action. Ilearned whatdo self-confidence, organizationalskills,
upgrade of theoretical& practical knowledge mean to the engineer .
