The right atrium and ventricle receive and pump deoxygenated blood to the lungs. The left atrium and ventricle receive and pump oxygenated blood from the lungs to the rest of the body. The heart wall has three layers - the inner endocardium, middle myocardium responsible for contraction, and outer epicardium formed by the pericardium.
