The development is based primarily on horizontal

wells enhancing reservoir drainage and
productivity.

Horizontal well permit multiple targets to be

reached from a minimum number of drilling centres
with good flexibility.

Monitoring, Inspection and testing

methodology
ƒ Data gathering : data collected from various inspections
ƒ Analysis : data analysed to determine reduction in capacity, performance….
ƒ Information : assessment of risk
ƒ Action : appropriate action to be determined

Implement a subsea management program
ƒ Total is today operating 6 deepwater development and have 5 new field under
development , all having different particularities (fluid, country, subsea architecture,
contractors, technical solutions…)

ƒ Company needs to be well prepared to face unexpected failures in order to:

¾Minimize production loss
¾Minimize intervention costs
¾Maintain operator image with IOC and NOC

ƒ Total needs to have a deepwater management system operationnal including:

¾Requirement for monitoring
¾Regular inspection
¾Analysis of most potential failures (umbilicals, pipelines, jumpers, ….)……

Several failures already occurred on Girassol and Dalia which costs fortune to company
