Half-life data
The reactivity of an organic peroxide is usually given by its half-life (t½) at various
temperatures. For DTBP in chlorobenzene half-life at other temperatures can be
calculated by using the equations and constants mentioned below:
0.1 hr at 164°C (327°F)
1 hr at 141°C (286°F)

Thermal stability
Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances which may undergo self-
accelerating decomposition. The lowest temperature at which self-accelerating
decomposition may occur with a substance in the packaging as used for transport is the
Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT). The SADT is determined on the
basis of the Heat Accumulation Storage Test.
SADT 80°C (176°F)
Method The Heat Accumulation Storage Test is a recognized test method for
the determination of the SADT of organic peroxides (see
Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of
Tests and Criteria - United Nations, New York and Geneva).
Storage
Due to the relatively unstable nature of organic peroxides, a loss of quality will occur
over a period of time. To minimize the loss of quality, Do Sender Chem recommends a
maximum storage temperature (Ts max. ) for each organic peroxide product.
Ts Max. 40°C (104°F) and
Ts Min. -30°C (-22°F) to prevent crystallization
Note When stored according to these recommended storage conditions, DTBP
will remain within the Do Sender Chem specifications for a period of at
least 6 months after delivery.

Applications
CHP is a peroxide mixture based on cumene hydroperoxide. CHP is especially
developed for the cure of vinylester or phenacryl resins in combination with a cobalt
accelerator. It can successfully be used instead of generally applied keton with the
following features: no ‘gassing’ after the peroxide is mixed in the preaccelerated
vinylester resin. This phenomenon is very often recognized as a disadvantage of ketone
peroxides in vinylester resins. The use of an amine accelerator is in general not
necessary to achieve a good cure, a fast cure in thin coatings and laminates up to a
thickness of approx. 6 mm and a low peak exotherm in thick laminates.
Thermal stability
Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances which may undergo self-

LPO is a widely used initiator for the suspension and mass polymerization of vinyl
chloride between 60°C and 80°C. In many cases LPO is combined with a more active
initiator, such as a peroxydicarbonate to increase reactor efficiency. LPO is
used as an initiator for the high pressure polymerization of ethylene, but because of its
poor solubility in most aliphatics, it is in many cases replaced by other peroxides such
as Di(3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyl) peroxide (TMHP). The advantage of LPO is the
possibility of storing at ambient temperature. LPO is also used as an initiator for the
polymerization of methylmethacrylate at 60-90°C. LPO is often applied as a
replacement for 2,2'-Azobis(isobutyronitril) (AIBN).

MIBKP is a methyl isobutyl ketone peroxide (MIBKP) formulation for curing unsaturated
polyester resins as such or in the presence of a cobalt accelerator in the temperature
range of 60-150°C.
Applications
MIBKP is a methyl isobutyl ketone peroxide (MIBKP) formulation for the curing of
unsaturated polyester resins as such or in the presence of a cobalt accelerator in the
temperature range of 60-150°C. MIBKP can be used in combination with a cobalt
accelerator for those applications where a long gel time or production time is required at
ambient temperature and a fast cure at higher temperatures e.g. 60-100°C. Application
area can be: filament winding and production of flat and corrugated sheets. MIBKP
shows also without the addition of a cobalt accelerator a high reactivity at elevated
temperatures, which is demonstrated by its low activation temperature. MIBKP can
therefore successfully be used in the temperature range of approximately 80-150°C: for
the production of flat and corrugated sheets where a discoloration by the cobalt
accelerator is not acceptable, as kicker for the pultrusion application in combination with
a low reactive peroxide. The low reactive peroxide must be included in the formulation in
order to achieve a complete cure.

ACP is an acetylacetone peroxide formulation for fast curing of unsaturated
polyester resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator at room and elevated
temperatures, including a VR system.
Applications
ACP is an acetyl acetone peroxide formulation for the curing of unsaturated polyester
resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator at room and elevated temperatures. With
the curing system ACP /cobalt accelerator a much faster speed of cure may be
achieved than with curing systems based on a MEKP plus cobalt accelerator, at room
and elevated temperatures. Normally the gel times with ACP are comparable to those
with Butanox M-50. ACP is particularly suitable in those applications where a fast mold-
turnover is required, e.g. for the cold press molding or resin injection molding techniques.
The system ACP /cobalt accelerator will give a higher peak exotherm than a standard
MEKP/cobalt accelerator system. Due to this fact, is it recommendable to avoid the
production of too thick laminates in one operation. At low temperatures a reasonable
speed of cure is still obtained when ACP is used in combination with large amounts of
cobalt accelerator possibly in combination with N,N Dimethylaniline as promotor.
Thermal stability
Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances, which may undergo self-

Applications
MEKP is a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide formulation for the curing of unsaturated
polyester resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator at room and elevated
temperatures. In thin laminates up to approx. 4 mm MEKP performs comparable with
Butanox M-50, however, in thicker laminates up to approx. 10 mm MEKP gives a
reduced peak exotherm at equal gel time and curing time. Therefore, MEKP is suitable
for the cure of both thin and thick sections in one particular product.
