LESSON 21

195. Gentlemen: We have written you several letters asking you to send us a remittance to pay for the

advertising circulars we printed for you last July. Evidently, they were lost, or they escaped your

attention because we have not yet received any remittance from you.

I am sure everyone would agree that is it to a company´s advantage to maintain a good credit standing

with its creditors. You have had a very good credit standing ever since you placed you first order with

us, but you are in danger of losing it.

I suggest, therefore, that you send us a check for $2,000 without delay. Do not wait every day is very

important. Yours very truly,

196. Dear Dr. Fenton: Enclosed is your personal cop of our tennis catalog. It contains just about

everything that any tennis player could ever need. We suggest that you browse through it and then

take advantage of our very low prices. In the back of the catalog, you will find several order cards.

We are proud to announce that next month we are opening a women´s department, where we will.

Carry a complete line of women´s tennis outfits. After all, today as many women are playing tennis as

men. We feel, therefore, that we should make our services available to them.

Whenever you need tennis equipment, give us an opportunity to serve you. We are confident that no

other tennis shop can maintain our high standard of service and meet our very low prices. Sincerely

yours,
197. Dear Dr. Brandon: We are very sorry that we cannot send you 50 copies of our bulletin entitled

Pointers for the Business Typist. This bulletin has been out of print ever since April, and we have no

immediate plans to manufacture any more copies.

But perhaps I can be of assistance to you. I have several file copies and would be glad to lend you one

which you may duplicate. This your students will be able to take advantage of the many valuable

suggestions that this well-planned bulletin contains. All we ask is that you place a special credit line on

every copy saying that is has been reproduced with our approval.

What do you think of this suggestion? Sincerely yours,

198. Ms. Landon: At 10 o’clock on the morning of June 15 we will have a short meeting of managers

and assistant in the main conference room. At this meeting our president, Mr. Baker, will give us his

views on salary increases for next year.

I know that you are very busy and have lots of work on your desk, but I assure you that the meeting

will last less than an hour. This meeting is of great importance to every one of us, so please try to be

present. Allen Cobb

199. Mrs. Gaston: Thank you for inviting me to the President´s Dinner on June 15. I would like to

attend, but I cannot.

Yesterday I was invited by Dr. Jones to talk to the student body of the West Street High School in

Trenton on June 15, and I accepted. If only you had invited me one day sooner!
