Shaffer Direct Drive Valve Assembly P/N 7401344

Spring P/N 8900102 Revision
Direct Drive Valve (DDV) fluid ends were returned from the field with lower than expected
successful operational cycles. This was indicated by poor sealing characteristics on the inlet seat and
a low leakage rate from the inlet seat to vent. When possible the returned valves were pressure
tested and then disassembled and analyzed. The root cause was found to be an out of tolerance
spring.

Weak and/or damaged springs have been found to be installed in the field population of DDVs. The
springs returned from field were measured and the design of the spring was reviewed and revised.

The old and new spring design are issued under P/N 8900102. The old design was issued to the field
as original equipment in the valve assembly and as a spare part only. The springs can be
differentiated from one another by counting the number of coils. The old spring design has 9.5 coils;
the new spring design has 12 coils."

The new spring is available under the same P/N and is issued to the field in new valve assemblies, as
a spare part and in all seal kits (P/N 7401350). Seal kits and springs are available through Varco
Sales and Service
