CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY INTRODUCTION

In recent years, mobile telecommunication systems have grown

significally and mobile phones have become essential part of daily life

and very popular among the people of almost every age group.

With the passage of time, the refinements were made to improve

the functions and size/shape of device. Most students use mobile phones

for different purposes for communication with family and friends, to

access internet to get school updates thru messenger, calculator and also

for research.

No doubt mobile phones helped the students in different ways, but

some negative effects are also there. In some cases, the mobile phones

use has become an addiction and students remain stuck to their mobile

phones during the significant part of their academic performance,

reading, playing and even sleeping. The virtual world they view on their

mobile phones is highly distracting. Students find it fascinating and

spend hours lost in it. It is not only misleading but confusing, too. It also

distracts them from their studies and sports as kids wish to spend more

time with their phones than their books. Overuse of cell phones can act

as a barrier to quality interactions and conversations, leading

to decreased satisfaction in our relationships.

This conducted for us to know us the importance and the

possible impacts of the students uses mobile phones. Excessive device

use can lead to feelings of being disconnected when we spend time with

friends and family. Concentration and learning issues.

This study is conducted so that the possible impacts of

students use mobile phones will be determined and proposal remedial

measures will be given.
