MIDDLE SCHOOL

Friday Bulletin
Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents
ISSUE # 08
WEEK OF OCTOBER 03 TO 07, 2011

From the Middle School Office

Dear Parents: As the students return from their Classroom Without Walls (CWW) teambuilding trips, we hope they have forged some new friendships and developed a deeper awareness of how they can contribute to building a stronger sense of belonging among their peers and a sense of community within the grade level. Please take some time to engage your child and discuss ways that your child can build on the experience. We thank all the teachers for their dedication and efforts to provide a range of enriching experiences for the students. As we continue with the school year, rest assured that the experiences and memories will be kept alive and built upon through the Homebase program. The MS Student Council has been busily preparing for the upcoming Middle School Parties. The first party on Friday, October 7 is for the Grade 5 and Grade 6 students. The second party on Friday, October 14 will be for the Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. Both events run from 5:00 7:00 P.M. Permission slips are available through Homebase, and in order to attend, your child must submit a signed permission slip and purchase a ticket. Please be advised that students are expected to attend the duration of the party. In the event that a student must leave before the end of the party, it is requested that a parent notify the office in writing or by phone in advance. When informing the office of the early pick-up, please tell us who will pick up your child and the time so that the MS Office can inform security. Please understand that we request this information to ensure the safety of the students who leave the event early. We encourage all students to attend their respective party and are looking forward to 100% participation. There will be games, dancing and lots of fun to be had. The parties will be a great opportunity to spend time with friends! Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs) in the Middle School are scheduled for Monday, October 10th and Tuesday, October 11th from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Students will follow a modified schedule on both days and be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Please make the necessary transportation arrangements so that your child is picked up promptly at dismissal time. For PTCs this year we have implemented an online approach to conference reservations. A step by step guide was sent home and is also included in the bulletin for your reference. Please take note as well that we request parents to sign up for one session per teacher, not per core subject in grades 5 & 6. In order to reserve an appointment, you will need your PowerSchool username and password. If you have misplaced or forgotten your PowerSchool login details, please call the Middle School Office at 840 8555/8550 or email Grace Gabay (GabayG@ismanila.org). Enjoy the weekend! Regards, Simon Gillespie Middle School Principal Clarissa Sayson Middle School Assistant Principal
