If you long for those days of pure innocence at the seaside, relive them on island
getaways around the British Isles. Some of the best Isles of Scilly are perfect for
family escapes. Take an island small enough to walk around. No vehicles, except
for the odd tractor or truck. Throw in sandy beaches and seals basking on rocks.
Pepper with stories of shipwrecks and pirates ― then add children and see what
happens.
Islands tap into a child’s sense of ____① ___ in a way that children’s clubs rarely
manage. They evoke an era in which family fun was gauged by the complexity of
sandcastles built, and interesting shells collected. Yet they are not without

retreat as revisiting childhood memories.
