Activity 11 - ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

LEARNING ASSESSMENT

Application – Let us Apply!

1. Based on this lesson and by means of an acrostic, give qualities or

specific behaviors of good leaders. See example.

L – Long-term thinkers. Leaders are visionaries. This is evidenced by the

leadership trait of being able to plan for the future through concrete and
quantifiable goals. They understand the need for continuous change and are
open to trying new approaches to solve problems or improve processes.

E – Empathy. A leader must have an ability to understand or feel what other

people are experiencing.
A – Accountable. Leaders hold themselves accountable and take
responsibility for any mistakes. Leaders support and encourage individuality
while abiding by organizational structure, rules, and policies that need to be
followed.
D – Delegate. Good leaders recognize that delegation does more than simply
passing the task to someone else. It is trusting and believing that your employees
are able to handle the task given to them.
E – Enthusiastic. A good leader is enthusiastic about their work or cause and
also about their role as leader.
R – Responsible. Great leaders know that when it comes to their company or
workplace, they need to take personal responsibility for failure.
S – Self-motivated. Leaders are self-motivated and are able to keep going
and attain goals despite setbacks. In addition, good leaders try their best to
exceed, not just meet, expectations.

2. You are assigned as a school head in a low-performing school. Students

are poorly motivated, parents and community are not very cooperative, and
teacher have low morale. As a leader, what should you do? Outline your steps.
2

As school head I will encourage the students and parents through activities
wherein the parent and student will participate to motivate them, maybe through
family camp activity where parents and children as well as the teacher who will guide
them to enjoy and feel them that they are part of the school. And then during the
activity I will emphasize the role of parents, students, teachers and the community. I
will let them realized the importance of their role and participation to the school.

3. As a newly promoted school head. You are introducing an innovation in

school. Sociologically, Filipinos are known for the "ningas-cogon" mentality.
How does this mentality affect school innovation? As a leader, how will you
counteract it?

“Ningas-cogon” mentality affects the school innovation. As a leader you

should be able to know with the people whom you are dealing with. When you are
dealing with people with this type of mentality you have to consider that they can
lose the interest after you introduce the subject at hand to them.

The new innovation that I will be brought up should be made in a special way
that the idea is not introduced at once rather a bit by bit. It is of uttermost importance
that the innovation considers should have stages that will keep the minds of the
students interested on whatever has been introduced. The first phase might be to
make them love the idea but not to quickly forget about it. The second phase would
be sought of reintroducing the subject but with a little spice on it so that interest is
not lost. The last phase which is the third phase would be to introduce the whole
subject at hand and then make it like, it is a new thing that you are introducing to the
students then boom the Ningas-Congon mentality is gone and they will be not easily
getting out of interest on the new subject. This is because they will s waiting for the
new things to be introduced to them.

4. Two of your teachers are doing very well. Four strongly resist
Continuing Professional Development. Two are about to retired and simply
waiting to retire. To make your school perform, as a school head, what moves
will you take? Explain.

As school head, I will encourage the targeted teacher to continue their

professional development opportunities to boost student outcomes and promote
a growth mindset. Because teacher professional development encourages teachers
to be active participants in their own learning, and ensures that students and
teachers alike are eager to learn. When you provide learning and support for your
teachers, you communicate that the school community values the work they do and
wants them to grow. Every teacher faces unique classroom challenges and comes
to work each morning with a different set of skills. However, in the name of time, cost
and efficiency, many professional development opportunities for teachers are too
broad and not relevant to most, or even many, of the teachers attending.
3

If you want professional development to be relevant, ask your teachers for their
suggestions — there’s a good chance that they have plenty to say.
Give teachers a choice about what or how they learn. Give different options for
workshops or courses they can take.
If you can’t offer different options, keep the topic simple. Go for depth instead of
breadth, and make sure that teachers come away from the session with all the
information they need to start using it in the classroom.
A lack of professional development resources for teachers can be discouraging. It
communicates that you don’t want to invest in the quality of teaching and puts more
stress on teachers to develop their skills alone.

5. Here are various methods that leaders employ:

• Model the way. Set the example. - Democratic leadership
• Share your vision. Enlist others. - Democratic leadership
•Challenge the process. Look for ways to grow. – Situational leadership
• Enable others to act. Empower others. - Democratic leaders
• Set goals. – Autocratic leaders
• Build trust. - Democratic leadership
• Give the directions. - Autocratic leaders
• Encourage the heart. Give positive reinforcement. - Democratic leadership

Identify the leadership style employed in each method. Explain your answer.

Based from the methods It is more on democratic which is the best style.
As a leader, you have to be resilient and innovative to be an efficient leader.

___F____9. In situational leadership, if followers are "willing and able" to do the job,
leader must resort to telling.
___T____10. Tranformational leadership is focused on innovations.
___F____11. Innovations when relevant do not need to be sustained.

Let us Reflect!

What kind of a leader am I? What should I do to become an effective

leader and efficient school head?

Everyone leads in a different way. A large part of group success is not

necessarily who is leading but rather how they lead. The right leadership style
and collaboration between employees can turn a dysfunctional team into one
that is incredibly productive. On the flip side, a leadership style that does not
fit can stymie growth and lead to limited production. For me, I am Democratic
leader because I believe democratic leaders are incredibly effective and allow
for higher productivity in group members. This style can lead to more creative
solutions to problems especially when plenty of time is available for
contribution, planning and action.
Great leadership is the key to success in any school. The best schools
will have an effective school leader or group of leaders. Leadership not only
sets the stage for long-term achievement, but it ensures that there will be
sustainability long after they're gone. In a school setting, a leader must be
multifaceted as they deal with other administrators, teachers, support staff,
students, and parents on a daily basis. This is not an easy job, but many
administrators are experts at leading the various subgroups. They can
effectively work with and support every person at the school.
In order to say that you are an effective leader if you develop a leader.
