Introduction.
Batek (Nig.) Ltd. was Incorporated as a private liability Limited Company in

the year 1989 with registration no: RC 135747.
We started operations in 1992 as an MDT Company and registered with shell

Petroleum Development Company in 2nd June 1995 with vendor registration
no: Inspection Service Class IS-1: with vendor No. 02314.
At the advent of Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority in 2004, Batek as NDT

Company and using Ionizing Radiation in its operations, registered with NNRA
with our registration then as NNRA//URS/390/2004.
We have since been renewing our yearly operational license and the current
ones are as follows

Presently we have about 16 trained Industrial and Certified Radiographers up

to ASNT Levels I and II in our Organization.

We provided Post Weld Heat Treatment for the 20” pipes of 25mm thick at the Chevron / NWDM
Barge at Dibi.

Commissioned by Gramen Petroserve to carry out radiographic inspection and magnetic
particle inspection on 20” diameter piping at Forcados Terminal for FYIP.
2001 – 2002 NGC PROJECT.

We were commissioned by Gramen to carry out NDT services on the Nigerian Gas Company
Pressure Vessels at Egbin, Ewekoro and Shagamu in Ogun State in 1998. The project involved
Radiographic Inspection, Dye Penetrant Inspection, Ultrasonic Inspection, Thickness
Measurement and Painting Inspection.
Nov. 1998 – Feb. 2002

Carried out radiographic inspection for Gramen Petroserve on their SPDC Project –
Delivery Line Launcher Barrel at Odidi, Egwa, Oben and Olomoro.
(6b) GRAMEN/CHEVRON PROJECT:

Commissioned by Gramen Petroserve to carry out radiographic inspection on 4”,
6” diameter Flowline Replacement at Makaraba.

Commissioned by Gramen to carry out radiographic inspection services on Chevron’s
Facilities i.e. the 20” diameter 19.5mm thick Gbokoda Block F/L Conductor Pile and the
18” diameter Bulk Line Construction.
(7) NESTOIL LIMITED:
Nov. 2001 – Sept. 2005
We were commissioned as a Radiographic Inspection Company to carry out all
radiographic activities for Nestoil on their SPDC Opukushi Flow Station Development
work. The Project involved radiographic inspection of ½” – 24” diameter pipes. We also
carried out Dye Penetrant Inspection on the project.
(8) PAN – OCEAN CORPORATION :
May 2001 – June 2001.
Commissioned by Pan Ocean Corporation to carry out full Inspection on the rehabilitation
of storage tanks at Oghara/Ologbo tank farm.
The Inspection carried out involves
(a) Ultrasonic test on the tank Shell and Floor.
(b) Vacuum box test on the tank floor
(c) Magnetic Particle Inspection on the welds of the floor and all T welds.
(d) Radiographic Inspection of Selected areas of the Shell – plates.
(9) WELTEK LIMITED
Mar. 2001 – Apr. 2004
Commissioned by Weltek to carry out Radiographic Inspection, Magnetic Particle
Inspection (MPI) and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) on the EPIC CAO/SCADA Project
SPDC West at various locations as follows: Kokori, Otorogun, Otumara, Afiesere, Ogini,
Opukushi, Ughelli West, Oben, Uzere on pipe diameters ranging from ½” - 6” diameter.
(10) GLOBAL ENERGY COMPANY LIMITED

Commissioned by Global Energy to carry out Radiographic Inspection, Magnetic Particle
Inspection (MPI) and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) on the SPDC CAO/SCADA Project
for Kokori, Afiesere and Ogini Compressor Stations on diameters of pipe ranging from ½”
- 6” diameter.
(11) NIGERIAN PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED, BENIN – CITY (NPDC).
April 1999 till August 1999.
Commissioned by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, Benin to carry out
Inspection on the construction of storage tanks at the Ologbo mini tank farm.
Activities include the following:
(a) Supervision of the welding activities on the tank
(b) Conducting of the welders’ qualification tests.
(c) General Supervision of the construction activities like:
- Carrying out radiographic examination of the welds on the Shell plates
- Carrying out of MPI on the welds on the floor and the T joints.
- Carrying out vacuum box test on the floor of the tank.
- Supervision of the hydrostatic tests on the tank.

Carried out radiographic inspection on the Pile Casing for Civil Works on the Escravos

Involved in the Radiographic Inspection of 8” and 10” NNPC Delivery Line between Port
Harcourt/Aba, Onitsha and Auchi.

Aug. 2005 till Date (FYIP PROJECT)
Provided QA/QC and radiographic inspection personnel for the construction of FYIP
Gas Plant at Yokri.

Handled the Radiographic Inspection of the Safety Upgrade of the various Flowstations
like Oweh, Oginni, Eriemu, Otorugu, Olomoro, Amukpe and others.
(18) NIGERIAN PET. DEV. COY LTD. (NPDC) – BENIN:

Jan. 1995 till date
Appointed the Radiographic Inspection Contractor and responsible for the Radiographic
inspection of the 4” dia. Flowlines and the 6” diameter Export Pipelines at Oredo Field. We were
involved in their 8km Abura Flowline Project as the only Radiographic Inspection Contractor
in 1992. We also Carried out Radiographic Inspection of the In-field Flowlines Construction to
Well Head nos. 2, 4, 5, 7 and 9 and the 65/8 O.D. Export Pipeline in 1995.
We also carried out Radiographic Inspection on the Flowline Construction of Abura – 8 OML 65
in 1997.
In 1999 – 2001, we carried out Radiographic Inspection on the 16km South Crude Oil
Export Pipeline.
Dec. 2002 – Aug. 2003
Commissioned to carry out radiographic inspection of the 4” 8 km Lima and Seria
Flowline Construction at Abura.
Nov. 2004 – Aug. 2005
Carried out radiographic inspection on the Abura 9 Flowlines Lima and Seria – 9 km.
(19) DBN LIMITED/WRPC

November 1992 – Jan 1993
Commissioned by DBN the main contractor to carry out Inspection on the rehabilitation of
tank 62 at the WRPC.
The Inspection activities include:
(a) Ultrasonic measurement on the Shell and the floor plates.
(b) Radiographic testing on the Shell plates and the pipings
(c) Vacuum box Inspection of the floor plate.
(d) Provision of painting Inspectors to supervise the re-painting of the tank.
(e) Supervision of the hydrostatic tests.

(20) D.B.N. NNPC/SPDC CONTRACTS:

1992 - 1996
We have handled various jobs for DBN on both the NNPC Refinery and SPDC contracts
between 1992 till 1996. We handled the Radiographic Inspection for DBN on their SPDC
Modified Scrapper Barrel Contract at Ughelli.
EMERGENCY/RADIOGRAPHIC PROCEDURES:
We have the Emergency/Radiographic Procedure, which has been approved by SPDC and
we have successfully undergone several emergency drills since we mobilized on SPDC
contracts.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT/CREW:
We have two complete sets of standard emergency equipment and crew to deal with any

SAFETY POLICY
The management of Batek shall ensure that the annual limit on dose intake of
every Radiographer working in its employment shall be low as reasonably
achievable. To achieve this, the management has full responsibility for the
prevention of Radiation accident but this can be achieved by the cooperation of
the entire work force.
All hands must be on deck to prevent radiation hazards as all classified
workers working with a Radiographic source should be responsible for his own
safety and the safety of other non classified personnel in the vicinity.
Safety Manual
Batek has its Radiation Safety manual, Emergency Procedure and Contingency
Plans which is made available to all the Radiation workers.
Batek in addition to the above has the hand held company safety policy,
Radiation Safety Manual, Radiographic Procedure, Contingency Plans and job
Hazard analysis pamphlet which is issued to every Radiation worker in the
company.
Radiation Protection Officer (RPO):-

The company has two certified Radiation Protection officers who monitors the
periodic servicing of the equipment and ensures that all Radiation workers put
on their PPE like film badges, pen dosimeters and Radiation monitors at their
various work sites.
The RPO also keeps record of all Radiation equipment and cumulative dose
records of all Radiation workers.
Dosimetry Service Provider:-

Radiation absorption is being monitored monthly by our accredited film badge
supplier – Radiation Safety Technologies Ltd. Cumulative dose record
maintained for each radiation worker.
Equipment Maintenance:-
Radiation equipment are maintained and serviced regularly and the record
properly kept.
Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE):-

Each employee is issued with personnel protective equipment like – coveralls,
hard hat, safety shoe, film badge and blipers.
Medical Facility:-
BATEK maintains a retainership with Royalis Medical Centre, Ekpan.
All Radiation staff do undergo medical check every six months interval and
such medical reports are documented and kept for each staff.

Emergency Drills / Emergency Kit.
Batek has a dedicated emergency crew headed by the Snr. RPO and two sets of
emergency kits in case of an emergency involving Radio-active source.
Emergency drills are undertaking once a year to prepare the emergency crew
into a state of readiness in case of Radiation emergency.
