Whole valve body replacement
“Important “
When the new electrics plate /control unit/valve body is fitted to
the transmission you must carry out the full initial start up process
straight away.
If the vehicle is started and driven without the initial start up
process fully completed, the vehicle will start and drive in
emergency mode only,(second gear).
The control unit will be locked out, and it will not be possible to
complete initial start up of the electric plate/valve body/ ECU.
THIS WILL RENDER THE CONTROL UNIT UNSERVICABLE
This will result in having to purchase another new
control unit/valve body
Whole valve body replacement

NOTE
It is not possible to fit used/second hand valve
body’s with a new electric’s plate.

Each valve body is unique and timed perfectly from

the factory to fit specific vehicles.

VIN numbers can only be entered once.

Whole valve body replacement
• If you are changing the valve body it is possible that
Mercedes may supply you a reconditioned part.
• This is recognisable by the part number on the box.
• If it is a reconditioned part the number will be similar to
this example,: A220 270 27 06 /88 or /80
• The /88 or /80 on the end of the part number normally
means it is an exchange/reconditioned valve body.
• If this is the case the number stamped on the valve body
may well be different from the part number on the box.
• If you have one of these reconditioned valve bodies then
you must code it using the EHS number on the box not the
number stamped on the valve body.
Electronic control module
Control module software can be loaded using Autologic.
• This process does not erase the factory algorithms that were written
• to the control module during manufacture.

• Flashing of the control module would be performed:

- after replacing transmission
- after replacing electro-hydraulic valve body
- after replacement of electrical plate replacement
- to update the control module software to resolve a problem

• If transmission control module is new or transmission is replaced, then part

of the installation process would be to release transport protection and
personalize (marry) the module to the vehicle.
• Once transmission control module is married to the vehicle, it will not work
correctly in another vehicle (only limp-home mode)
Electric plate / ECU replacement
Shift quality complaints on vehicles with OM629 engine
On vehicles with engine OM629, a complete EHS replacement or an EHS repair may be
necessary depending on the EHS number installed.
An EHS electric plate repair is only permissible on vehicles which are already equipped with a
VGS3 control unit, EHS item no. A 220 270 24 06. (stamped on side of valve body)
For all other EHS numbers, an EHS (complete valve body) replacement is necessary.
With VGS1-Fault codes : 2200, 2201, 2204, 2205, 2206, 2207, complete EHS (valve body)
replacement is always required (please install EHS A 220 270 24 06 / 80) (check with
mercedes main dealer first.)
VGS2-Fault codes: 0717, 0718, 0722, 0723, 2767, 2768, in this case an electric plate repair is
not advised, always install (valve body) replacement EHS A 220 270 24 06 / 80.
VGS3-FC: 0717, 0718, 0722, 0723, 2767, 2768 for these codes in a VGS 3 it should be ok to
use an electric plate repair set.
Whole valve body replacement
The early 722.9 transmission controllers were known as VGS -1

These started in 2003 and ended in 2005 when the VGS 2 started production
NOTE: On vehicles with VGS-1 the whole 7G valve body needs to be replaced.
VGS 1 part numbers A 220 270 12 06 or A 220 270 14 06 or A220 270 10 06 or A220 270 11
06 ( any of these EHS numbers identify the controller as a VGS 1 EHS controller)
The EHS number can be read from Autologic or read from the side of the EHS control unit
(stamped on the side)

The transmission controller is now a DAS 3 component (drive

authorisation system)
Whole valve body replacement
The next generation of 722.9 transmission controllers were known as VGS -2

These started in 2005 and ended in 2008 when the VGS 3 started production

The EHS number can be read from Autologic or read from the side of the EHS control unit
(stamped on the side)

The transmission controller is now a DAS 3 component (drive

authorisation system)
Whole valve body replacement
The next generation of 722.9 transmission controllers were known as VGS -3

These started in 2008 and still continue even though the VGS 4 has started production

The transmission controller is a DAS 3 component (drive authorisation system)

The EHS number can be read from Autologic or read from

the side of the EHS control unit (stamped on the side)
Whole valve body replacement
The next generation of 722.9 transmission controllers were known as VGS -4

These started in 2012 and still current, these first came into production when the 231 SL
was released.

The transmission controller is now a DAS 4 component (drive authorisation system 4)

The EHS number can be read from Autologic or read from

the side of the EHS control unit (stamped on the side)
Whole valve body replacement
Important
There are three different repair options for the 7-g gearbox ,it is important you select the
correct repair procedure. complete gearbox /complete valve body or electric plate/control unit
replacement

1/ Only if the valve body has one or more of the following speed sensor fault codes stored or present On vehicles
with VGS2 AND VGS3: 0717, 0718,0722, 0723, 2767, 2768
On vehicles with VGS4: P071700, P071800, P072200, P072300, P276700, P276800
Or any of the following fault codes (which are also now also included) . 0705, 0604, 0605, 0641,
06A3, 0651, 1629, 1634, 1636, 0633, 062F, 0613, 0607, 0711, 1693, 1710, 1711, 1712, 0300, 060A,
1610, 0714, 0705, 0604, 0641, 06A3 - you can fit an electric plate/control unit replacement part .

The part number of this electric plate repair kit it 000-270-17-00 or 000-270-26-00 (and is only valid on VGS-2 and
VGS-3 transmissions) .

If other codes are present that are not in the previous list, you CANNOT fit the repair kit.
The repair kit is now compatible with AMG vehicles.

2/ If you have any other codes as well as the codes listed above the complete valve body should be
replaced.
If you cannot communicate with the old valve body you cannot fit the electric plate repair kit,
this is because 1the step read cannot be performed.

Common codes for Automatic transmission in limp-home mode,
Complaint: Automatic transmission 722.9 switches to limp-home while driving (gearshifts no
longer possible) and/or one or more of the following fault codes are stored or current
VGS 2+VGS3 0717, 0718, 0722, 0723, 2767, 2768 ,VGS4: P071700, P071800, P072200,

NOTE : it is now possible to just replace the electric plate /control unit separately
on the 7-G 722.9 transmission , only on VGS-2 / VGS-3 and VGS-4 boxes.
The transmission control unit, which is bolted onto the electro hydraulic controller unit
(EHS), may only be replaced using the EHS repair kit VGS 2 and VGS 3 -A000 270 17 00

It is also worth remembering that if you are re-flashing the original 7-G
transmission, you could delete all previous saved gear change adaption data.
In this case the smoothness of gear changing may be worse than before.

note: problems such as harsh gear changing are hardly ever cured by re-flashing the
7-g valve body, however if a re-flash or control unit programming is carried out the
learning process for range selector must also be carried out, failure to do this will
result in harsh gear engagement or a possible non start situation.

it will also be necessary to carry out a long road test to carry out gear shift
adaptations.
Whole valve body replacement
• we have also found that sometimes when fitting a 7-g
transmission to a ML-164 or RCLASS -251 ,If 7-g programming
keeps failing it may be necessary to disconnect the ESP control
unit electrically, and try again.
• The same applies to 211-219 chassis with SBC or ABR or
xenon headlights, disconnect and try again.
• reason for this could be due to CAN bus excess traffic .
• Re connect and clear codes when coding is complete .
caution
• We would recommend that a short/quick test is carried out for
all gearbox complaints and the Mercedes technical help desk is
contacted before any 7-g transmission work is carried out .
Note- an engine control unit update may also be required in
some instances.
• Always ensure that there are no stored fault codes in engine
control unit before carrying out SCN or control unit
programming , as this could also cause a programming failure.
Whole valve body replacement
After carrying out the gearbox programming when replacing the 7-G control unit or
Just updating the programming in the original 7-G control unit, it is possible to have
a current and stored fault in the transmission.
Code
061B the internal torque computation performed in component y3/8n4 is faulty
(This can be a current and stored fault code, in transmission control unit).

Reason: the torque interfaces of the engine control unit and the transmission
control unit are not suited to each other. Torque control is not possible.

Remedy : flash and SCN code the engine ECU with new programming files.
Note: even if no newer software is found for the engine ECU, the SCN coding
Should still be performed and fault codes deleted .

This fault mainly occurs on petrol vehicles ,

Whole valve body replacement

When removing the EHS valve body, make sure that the electrical
connector is not damaged.

It is recommended to press on the connector from

above during removal, otherwise it can be torn off easily.

When installing the EHS, make sure that the selection range valve is
hooked back into the DIRECT SELECT module (DSM), otherwise fault
code p2806 will be set.
Whole valve body replacement
Before starting the coding it is worth remembering a few points.
1/ When fitting a new valve body to a 7g transmission care must be taken to remember
to remove the oil feed pipe from the old valve body and swap it over with the new valve
body, as failure to do this will result in loss of drive.

valve body on to it.
Whole valve body replacement
722.9 transmissions continued:

When replacing the valve body on the 722.9 gearbox remember to remove the white oil
feed pipe from the shown location, It is simpler to install the pipe Into the gearbox and
assemble the valve body on to it.
Failure to do this will result in no drive when S mode is selected
and in C mode drive ok up to 6th gear (then slipping).
On 164 and 251 chassis vehicles will result in no drive at all .
Whole valve body replacement
2/ When fitting a new 7g valve body it is important that the selector linkage is correctly
located in the sliding gate, as it will be impossible to complete the start up procedure
with autologic.

3/ When carrying out SCN coding and drive authorisation, it is essential that you have
cleared all stored faults in all other control units, (especially engine ECU) and also have a
good stable vehicle voltage : (battery charger correctly installed on the vehicle) .
Also make sure the autologic is powered by its mains adapter.
Failure to do this may result in SD flash programming failing and the control module may
sustain permanent damage .

• The following pages/ screen shots have been improved and a slightly
different coding request procedure is now in place .

• This should make the 7-g coding and programming experience both
faster and more efficient.

• The programming request is converted into an online order request

which is sent to Autologic HQ, and a support log is automatically created.

• Once the order is received we will create the programming files and
coding files at the same time.

• When the files are completed the customer will be informed via E mail,
and asked to download the prepared file, and then to continue with the
initial start up and complete the coding procedure.

CODING INFORMATION
Possible problems when coding
7-g information
1/ To qualify for an electric plate repair the vehicle must only have a
speed sensor codes of one or more of the following codes VGS
2+VGS3 0717, 0718, 0722, 0723, 2767, 2768
VGS4:P071700,P071800, P072200, P072300, P276700, P276800

Or any of the following fault codes (are also now included ). 0705,
0604, 0605, 0641, 06A3, 0651, 1629, 1634, 1636, 0633, 062F, 0613,
0607, 0711, 1693, 1710, 1711, 1712, 0300, 060A, 1610, 0714, 0705,
0604, 0641, 06A3 – any of these are ok for electric plate/control unit
replacement part .

The repair kit is now compatible with AMG vehicles.

Possible problems when coding

2/ If you cannot communicate with the old transmission

valve body ECU you may need to fit a complete valve
body.(this is because you are unable to get a step 1 read
from old unit).

First check the lives and earths at the transmission plug

• 1. CAN C High
• 2. CAN C Low
• 3. Diagnostic Line
• (optional)
• 4. +12V (Circuit 87)
• 5. GND (Circuit 31)
Possible problems when coding
3/ The EHS numbers 220 270 12 06 and 220 270 14 06 or
A220 270 10 06 or A220 270 11 06 are all VGS 1
transmissions and therefore you are unable to carryout
the electrics plate repair, as VGS 1 boxes are not
compatible with the new electric plate.
so if you had a VGS 2 or VGS 3 or VGS 4 box > 2005
onwards then all should be ok( these can be seen on
page 2 of control unit version page with Autologic when
communicating with the 7-g transmission ECU)

4/ make sure a stable voltage is present throughout the

coding procedure (a battery charger is recommended).
Possible problems when coding
5/ The brand new complete EHS valve body looks like it comes blank and just needs flashing
and SCN coding and then all is ok. this is not the case ,
the valve body /control unit does have some values in from factory: example :the resistance
and working values from the solenoid valves , and as this is done at factory it is already pre
set on the new (seemingly) blank EHS(complete valve body)
if you purchase a new electric plate 000 270 17 00 or 000 270 26 00 this obviously cannot
be pre coded at factory as the working values of the solenoid valves for your vehicle are not
known , so the old ECU still needs to be fitted to the vehicle, then with Autologic on
vehicle establish communication with transmission/initial start up / and select ECU and
electrics plate repair.
In step 1/ (read data) with Autologic the old working values of the solenoid values are
read and stored in Autologic then remove valve body and fit the new electrics plate and re
write the EHS number to latest number available and then carry out rest of process on
Autologic.
it seems the values that are retrieved from the old ECU are live and stored data, and that is
why the old valve body still has to be fitted to the vehicle for the values to be transferred
correctly, if you just hang old unit on vehicle(with no solenoid valves fitted) this will transfer
corrupt data and the gear change will be very harsh and unacceptable when programming is
complete.
Possible problems when coding
note: If you ever have a problem after flashing the EHS(valve body) or a electrics plate repair
and you are not sure if the process has completed correctly ?
(even if it seems to have completed the process via autologic) ) a good way to check is
have a look in actual values for gearbox and look at the transmission oil temperature, if the
temp displayed is (minus 50 degrees ) then something is wrong with the coding or it has
not completed correctly.
(note : this is only possible to check when all the 5 steps have been completed).

-50
p

It is also worth remembering that the control unit/ electric plate is coded to the vehicle and
cannot be transferred to other vehicles once assigned to a vehicle .
Emergency Function or Limp-Home Mode
Emergency Function or Limp-Home Mode
There are a variety of failsafe modes:
1/ If a solenoid doesn’t work the affected gear is blocked. For example: if solenoid Y3/8y7
or the B3 clutch is defective, you will not have 1st gear , 7th gear or reverse gear in S mode.

2/ If a hydraulic fault prevents a gear from engaging, the previous gear will remain applied.
If the computer defaults to limp mode while driving, it’ll turn all solenoids off.

3/ If the transmission enters emergency mode while driving, all solenoid valves are switched
off.

4/ The transmission will shift into 6th gear (this is because the solenoid valves for B1+K2+K3
deliver max pressure with no current applied,)

5/ Solenoids that are normally open will allow full pressure to selected clutches and the
transmission will be in 6th gear. After shifting to park, and then drive oil pressure from K2
solenoid is redirected to the B2/BR solenoid by emergency operation valves, and the
transmission will give 2nd gear and reverse only ,with the selector in drive.
Valve body breakdown
Electronic Control Components
Here are the components that make up the electronic control system .
• Transmission Control Module (Y3/8n4) (flash capable)
• Working Pressure Control Solenoid (Y3/8y1) (line/normally open)
• K1 Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y2) (normally closed)
• K2 Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y3) (normally open)
• K3 Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y4) (normally open)
B1 Brake Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y5) (normally open)
• B2 Brake Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y6) (normally closed)
• B3 Brake Clutch Solenoid (Y3/8y7) (normally closed)
• Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid (Y3/8y8) (normally closed)

• Normally Closed: =high current, high pressure; no current, no pressure.

• Normally Open:= no current, high pressure; high current, low pressure.

Note: Normally open solenoids are used for limp mode with no current to the
transmission.
Shift quality complaint
Shift quality complaint limited to one shift operation

If a complaint only applies to one shift operation or to two shift operations with an identical
engagement element replacing the corresponding control solenoid valve may remedy the
problem.
In addition, the oil pan and magnets should be cleaned and the oil filter and B3 oil guide pipe
replaced.

Replacing more than three valves is not permissible because the adaptation requirements
increase as more valves are replaced.

Every valve has its own specific characteristic which is stored on the transmission control unit
during production. When a valve is replaced,

the new valve characteristic cannot be transferred to the transmission control unit in the
workshop, which increases the adaptation requirements.

When replacing valves, make sure that the correct valve is installed. There are two different
types of valves:
Blue cap, rising characteristic for shift elements B2/BR, B3, K1, KÜB (part no.: A220 270 09 98)
Black cap, falling characteristic for shift elements B1, K2, K3, AD (part no.: A220 270 10 98)
JUDDERING AND DRONING COMPLAINTS
The torque converter lockup clutch closing function is only possible on vehicles
produced as of 07/2008.

as with the 722.6 EGS 51 -52- 53 transmissions the function of turning off the
torque converter lock up clutch is available on the 7-g transmission but only
possible on vehicles produced as of 07/2008.

Closing the torque converter lockup clutch (fully closing the torque converter
lockup clutch for one ignition sequence).

It is possible to activate a "Lock Up mode" using AUTOLOGIC in order to analyse

complaints about vibrations and jolting.

In doing so, the torque converter lockup clutch is closed and actuated at maximum
pressure during the slip control phase (standard operation).
JUDDERING AND DRONING COMPLAINTS
This CONDITION is maintained until a certain vehicle speed is dropped below and
then restored when the vehicle starts off again.

Closed torque converter lockup clutch mode is always active for one ignition
sequence and is only deactivated once the engine is turned off. You must
therefore make sure that the engine is switched off once before the vehicle is
handed over to the customer.

when transmission is in maximum pressure actuation, influences resulting from

torque converter lockup clutch control (behaviour of solenoid valves, friction
linings) are blocked out.

This allows the complaints to be investigated for their cause and eliminated
( Noise /Vibration/ Harshness ).

Remember to re cycle the ignition to bring back to normal operation.

Drive Authorization

DAS(drive authorization) networking on models 164-216-

Problems with coding completion can

also be caused by other control units
in the drive authorisation system ,
So fault code diagnosis of these
components may be necessary if
problems with completing occurs.
Transmission oil change
Basically, and this is by no means definitive!

722.9 up to transmission serial number 2834526, up to production date 18/06/2010

This is the original 7 speed transmission with red transmission oil.(depending on model and year of
production. service at 60,000 km/ 37,000 miles or 3 years ) approx.

722.9+ from transmission serial number 2834527, as of production date 21/06/2010

This transmission is sort of a hybrid between the 722.9 and the 722.9 FE+ ,this has blue transmission oil
but no stop start ( code B03) 50,000 km / 31,000 miles service or 3 years.

(Exception is OM629 engine vehicles that kept the old 722.9 transmission) (Service at 60,000 km/37,000
miles or 3 years )

722.9 FE transmission is the latest, this has blue oil, normally with stop/start code B03 ( but not
exclusively!) low friction internals, larger torque converter with centrifugal balance
weights.125,000km/77,600 miles service /5 years

it is difficult to categorise and there are exceptions

to the basic information above!
Transmission oil
From 21ST June 2010 a modified 7G transmission came into production. (7G plus)

This modified transmission requires a new transmission oil.

New Part number 001 989 78 03
This oil is a different color from the older 7G transmission.

New oil = A 001 989 78 03

New 7-g transmission
From June 2010 a modified 7-g transmission came into production. This modified
transmission requires a new transmission oil part number 001 989 78 03
This oil is a different colour from the older 7-g transmission
New oil = A 001 989 78 03 this new oil is blue in colour
Old oil = A001 989 68 03 old oil is red in colour
old new
Note: the oils are not interchangeable

The two transmission types can be visually identified by the following :

1/ The New 7-g has 4x large moulded indent marks in underside of sump pan ,
In comparison the old type has 4 x smaller indents.

Differences between 7G and 7G TRONIC PLUS
• Torque converter is modified, when in lock up mode it enables an even more direct
• connection between the vehicle drive system and the transmission.
• This connection improvement reduces friction losses even further,

• There is also a difference in clearance of the torque converter clutch disc due to a
spacing of discs, in this way braking power is reduced.
• A new pendulum damper is introduced in the torque converter to compensate for any
uneven running characteristics of the combustion engine, improves smooth running
characteristics.
• New transmission oil with the lowest viscosity world wide, with friction losses in the
transmission drastically reduced, along with a start stop system now introduced.
• The electro hydraulics control unit has also been completely reworked in order to enable
better shift dynamics, the control unit takes full advantage of the improved damping by
the new torque converter.
• 7 % fuel saving is possible and 11 % with ECO start stop

2/ the front section of the new 7-g sump pan has two raised sections for cable brackets
(as photos)which also makes it easier to identify.

The "3 types of adaptation"
Control unit adaptation
Control unit adaptations (or settings/adjustments) required to match the control unit to the
respective vehicle. The "Control unit adaptations“ menu in Autologic summarises the various
options e.g. teach-in to drive authorization system, variant coding, control module
programming , or teach-in of selection range sensor. These adaptations are performed once
and do not change automatically.

Shift line adaptation

During driving operation, the software monitors and controls adaptation of the shift program
and thus of the shift line displacement. Displacements can be triggered by driving resistance
and driving style etc. This process of adapting to the driving situation takes place continuously
and the settings are erased when the ignition is switched off (or if "normal" driving conditions
return first).

Shift adaptation
The process of shift adaptation for optimizing gear change operations also takes place
continuously in the control unit. However, the shift operations must take place under certain
conditions (engine rpm and load) in this case. This means that the driving style affects how
often the transmission is adapted. As a result, this adaptation can be initiated by deliberately
reproducing the relevant conditions while driving.
Performing Adaptation
To carry out the adaptation of the problem gearshifts: select the gear,
limit the engine speed to approx. 2,000 rpm, set up the required torque
range via the Autologic and then carry out the adaptation of the
problem gearshifts.
Cold adapt: For adaptation of 722.9+ ,722.9 FE+ (Blue Oil)
always start at oil temperature of 40° C:
- NAG2FE+ starts at 40° C and should be finished at 47.5° C
- NAG2+ starts at 40° C and should be finished at 60° C
- NAG2 starts at 50° C and should be finished at 80° C
Note: After flashing the latest NAG2FE+ software a cold adaptation of
the torque converter lock-up clutch via Autologic has to be completed.
Following an adaptation trip, the engine must continue running
for another 10 minutes before the ignition is switched off to
store in ecu
Transmission oil
When filling transmissions
Please be aware of the following

Total amount of oil required (approx.)

Gearbox and torque convertor empty after major repair
Transmission = 5.2 to 5.4 litres
+ 4.0 litres for torque convertor
+ 0.3 litres for oil cooler circuit
9.5 to 9.7 litres total fill

If just oil change maintenance required

5.2 to 5.4 total amount of oil required (approx.)

Oil-changing Interval Change for 722.9 FE+
Due to the reduction of friction and heat introduced into the torque
converter with the oil change interval has been changed to every
(125,000 Km)= 78,000miles
Note: Valid only for NAG2-FE+ (not valid for NAG2+). Do not assume
that all transmissions with blue oil are affected.
1-2 Up-shift Adaptation
To perform shift adaptation, engine RPM and Engine torque must match the specified range.
As soon as the RPM and Torque match and the target gear is reached press save.
Note:
On vehicles with the "M" shift program, this program may not be used because the adaptation
function is disabled in this case (sporty driving style).
1-2 Up-shift Adaptation
There are three adaptation temperature ranges 60° C, 90° C, and 110° C.
It is not necessary to perform each shift adaptation for each
temperature range. However, if a harsh shift is say the first few shifts
in the morning. It maybe possible to correct the issue while adapting
in the lowest temperature range.

722.9 Gearbox features and modifications
Basic shift program can be varied using S/C/M button (if equipped)
• S(Sport)
-always First gear start off
-Normal shift points
-Reverse gear one
• C/E mode
-Second gear start off gasoline engines 6/8 cylinder
- first gear start off gasoline engines 4 cylinder
-Diesel engines =1st gear start off
-Earlier upshifts and later downshifts
-Reverse gear two
• Transmission starts in first gear if any of the following apply:
-1st gear manually selected
-¾ to full throttle applied from stationary start
-Cold engine (catalytic converter warm-up)
• M (Manual)
-Manual up shift and down shift using paddles or ESM shifter (even at engine max rpm)

Note: Some AMG vehicles start in 2nd gear in “S” until driver demonstrates they want more
performance (throttle opening).
The 7G-Tronic engages the start off gear depending on the transmission mode and vehicle model ,
the following start off procedure currently applies to passenger cars.

• G class
• M class ( 164.177 AMG 3 transmission modes available)
• Viano
• Sprinter
Only one shift mode (C) COMFORT = 2ND GEAR PULL AWAY
• This is because as a heavier vehicle less chance of wheels spinning.
(also the same as 4x wheel drive)

• Note :Transmission starts in first gear if any of the following apply

1/ in shift range high (off road program activated)
2/ at full throttle

off road vehicles in high range= 1st gear (off road program activated)
off road vehicles in low range= 2nd gear (off road program de-activated)
Sailing function (KID+ mode)

Sailing function (KID+ mode)

Models: 218 , 722.9 FE+ with engine 276 and code 804.
If the sailing function is activated the drivetrain is decoupled from the engine while driving.
After switching off the Sailing function the transmission automatically shifts into optimum
gear.
The Sailing function is only available in driving mode E+ when actively releasing the
accelerator pedal without braking and pressing the shift button + for at least 3 seconds. All
the criteria must be fulfilled for the Sailing function to work.
The criteria for activation of Sailing function:
Drive program E+ selected.
A vehicle speed between 37-100 mph.
Short time manual mode (KZM) is not activated.
No Distronic or Speedtronic active.
Sailing function is deactivated when:
Pressing the accelerator pedal.
Pressing the brake pedal.
Pressing the shift buttons + or –.
The vehicle speed is not in or drops below the required threshold.
When changing the driving mode.
