Lavinia Pop
Introduction
About this book:
This unit contains 44 primer sight words booklets intended to for use with children in
Kindergarten (Prep). The booklets provide children an opportunity to practice reading sight
words in context and to help build confidence and develop fluency. The text follows a
predictable pattern and is supported by images, making them an ideal tool for emergent
readers.

Directions for use:

To assemble the booklets, print the pages you wish to use, cut them in half and staple
together.

Children to colour the pictures and then to trace the sight word in focus on each page.
They can then have fun reading their booklets to friends and family, if it is to be sent home.

The read and trace readers can be used while working with the entire class, in small groups,
or one-on-one with individual children. They can also be assigned as homework for
additional practice to reinforce words learnt in the classroom.

Happy Teaching :)

Reading Homework

Lavinia Pop
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of Primer sight word sentence reading sheets intended to be
used with children in Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade 1 as homework.

Repeated reading of a new sight word is important for memorising the word and for
developing reading fluency; therefore, children are encouraged to read each sheet 5
times, colouring an insect each time they do so.

Directions for use:

The primer sight word reading sheets in this packet are ordered so that each new sheet
builds on the sight words and vocabulary learned in the previous sheets. This Primer unit also
builds on previously learnt words from the Pre-Primer unit. For this reason, it is
recommended that you introduce the sight words in the order that they are presented in
this book.

Each sheet includes 8 sight words sentences and a column of pictures and matching words
for children to refer to if they need assistance reading non-sight words. Each time all 8
sentences have been read, children colour an insect to reflect their efforts.

These sheets may be stored in a homework reading folder or binder in individual plastic
sleeves (pockets), and can be read over and over again to ensure sight words are not
forgotten as new ones are being introduced.

Happy Teaching :)

Reading Strips & Writing Center

www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sight-Words-Reading-Strips-and-Writing-Center-Primer-Words-1420551

Lavinia Pop
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of primer sight word reading strips and a writing center intended to
be used with children in Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade 1.

Directions for use: Reading Strips

The primer sight word reading strips in this packet
are ordered so that each new strip builds on the
sight words and vocabulary learnt in the previous
strips. For this reason, it is recommended that
you introduce the sight words in the order that
they are presented in this book. New vocabulary
(words that are not sight words) accompanied by
an image appear only once on the strip they are
first introduced. It is hoped that, with repeated
reading, children will quickly learn to sound out,
blend and read CVC words independently.

The writing center included in this unit is intended Writing Center

for use as a collaborative classroom or reading
group project.

Print out a second set of strips and hand out one

strip to each child along with a blank writing
page. Children glue the strip in the space
provided, copy the phrase or sentence on the
handwriting lines and then draw a picture to
illustrate the phrase or sentence. Collect the
pages from each child and bind them together
to make a booklet for each sight word.

I have included a front cover in colour or black

and white that you may like to use for the sight
word books . Write the focus sight word in the
front box for easy recognition.

Happy Teaching :)
