This document outlines a proposed research project on relations between India and China from the 1950s to 1960s. It begins with an introduction noting how both countries were newly independent after World War 2. The project aims to closely examine the political viewpoints of India and China during this time period and how they led to declining trust. Key events to analyze include the road to the 1962 war, India's strategy and challenges during the war, and renewed relations afterward. Taking this historical approach can provide lessons for modern India-China relations, given recent border issues. The proposed method is to analyze influences from World War 2 through 1967, with a focus on less known facts that shaped the countries' interactions.

India-China relations: From brief brotherhood to broad
border issues
Introduction
To look at how India-China relations had been in the
1950’s and 1960’s. More particularly, when these two nations were still young(teenagers), had recently gained independence, had revolutions, and the world was still recovering from the aftermath of WW2, these nations emerged. There is a need to understand the policies (especially militia) of these two nations to understand how their relations went through time. More particular 1954 panchsheel, 1962 india-china war and 1967 incursion in bhutan. These two nations have a deep history of cultures, here we look at it from a modern perspective.
Aim
To closely examine the political viewpoint of both
nations, and how it led to a contraction in faith. Moreover to look at how the two nations juggled between internal and external policies. Some points to highlight are 1] The road to 1962 war 2] India 's strategy in that war ? Pitfalls and bravery 3] Renewed india china relations If possible we can also give some counterfactual analysis and some other theories
Why this ?
This project has both significance in present time given
recent india-china skirmishes and china's growing influence in the world. Also there has been few talks about this episode in the country, where this whole 1962 incident could teach us a lot. We'll try to come up with an innovative way to enhance the understanding of this project and to convince why this is a viable project to do.
Approach Plan
We would first look back at WW2 CBI theatre to
understand how that affected relations between India and china. Then we'll skip the Indian independence story, most of it has to be reiterated and is already common knowledge (no talks about Pakistan at all). However we'll look at some less known facts that are equally useful in shaping india-china relations. We'll also look at the power struggle in China, better known as the Chinese Civil war and India 's reaction to it. Then we shift our focus on Chinese illegal annexation of Tibet, this a turning point as the first time India and China share borders. India's approach of appeasement towards China. Then comes the ignored warnings, fear of army coup, Chinese encroachment, and finally a war (which nobody declared). Well look in detail at India's military strategy (forward policy) and battle plan. At last We'll look at renewed relations between India-China. Finally we'll look till 1967 where India changed its military strategy and focused on modernisation.
Forward
The project is both exciting and unique, however
there are some really good reports written over it. It remains to much surprise that this whole incident has not been well documented. Any suggestions would be welcome and we look ahead to continue in the same fashion.
