    The Assyrian Empire

    1. The Assyrian Empire existed somewhat along with the Babylonian Empire. (roughly at the same time)

    2. Look at the maps below. Take note of the Assyrian and the Babylonian Empires:
    Eg:
    When the First Babylonian Empire was strong, the Assyrian Empire was small.
    When the First Babylonian Empire grew weaker, the Assyrian Empire grew bigger.
    When the Assyrian Empire grew weaker, the Neo Babylonian grew bigger.

    3. The strength of the Assyrian Empire was the army. The army was very powerful.

    4. a)The Assyrians were known as a warrior society.

    b)Every young men trained as a warrior. All were ever ready to fight.

    c)Even the Kings were warriors too, but in battles, they were defended by the special guards.

    d)They has a standing army, meaning professional soldiers whose job was to fight only.

    5. a)Every spring the Assyrian Army would conquer big and rich cities.

    b)The Assyrian Empire grew bigger.

    6. The Assyrian Empire used the fearsome army to control the conquered people to obey the Empire.

    7. a)The Assyrians built forts to protect the Empire.

    b)The Assyrians built roads for the army to travel all over the Empire, to control and rule.

    8. a)The Assyrian Empire then grew too big to control.

    b)The people also hated the cruel Assyrian Army.

    9. The Neo Babylonians then took over the Assyrian Empire.
