What One Knows About Art Now

Art has evolved entirely over the past decades; art is not a mere form of artistic

visualization but focuses mainly on art as a formal beauty interpreted to its cultural meaning

(Sullivan et al., 2022). Art embraces various media and aesthetic ideas that blend with its

current timeline. For instance, the Kiss by Gustav Klimt was developed during the Art

Noveau movement in the 20th century. The art aimed at swaying away from the traditional

forms of art that have been prevalent over the past years and embraced new styles, such as

using gold to develop art (Sullivan et al., 2022). The art also aimed at depicting human

connections, thus meaning that art is more profound and spiced with more than what the

universe can hold.

The Theme of Painting in Three Different Eras

Renaissance by Leonardo da Vinci

The Renaissance period is called the Annunciation period, represented by a landscape

painting (Sullivan et al., 2022). The period is marked between 1472 and 1475. The primary

focus of this kind of artwork is based on a biblical aspect, where the landscape background

portrays Da Vinci s attention to art and its nature (Sullivan et al., 2022). The landscape

background serves as a backdrop that embraces several figures, thus defining divine presence

within nature

Romantic Period (1818)

Caspar David Friedrich depicts the romantic period in the painting known as The

"Wanderer above the Sea of Fog." The painting shows a solitary figure of a wanderer who

gazes into the misty view (Artble, 2017). The art outlays self-reflection, man's part in nature,

and the divinity found in both nature and emotion. The art also depicts the emotional intensity

of the natural world.

Impressionist Movement (1872)

The Impression and Sunrise is an art by Claude Monet. The artwork represents a

landscape painting based on the impressionist movement (Martinique, 2020). The artwork

played an essential part since it credited the movement its name. The art captures the effects

of light and atmosphere, a blend of vibrant colors, and a harbor scene of loose strokes

(Martinique, 2020). The art emphasis is based on capturing the light on water and conveying

subjective experiences and emotions.

Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci

Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci is a well-known portrait of Lisa Gherardini. The

famous painting is of a woman with a backdrop of a distant landscape. The art depicts

Leonardo's skills in handling sfumato, showing he was well versed in understanding

musculature and the subject's skull (Sullivan et al., 2022). The art is delicately painted while

at the same time carefully rendering a folded fabric. The art itself has had various

speculations and debates regarding the subject's identity; some state that she is Lisa del

Giocondo, and some say that she is the wife of a Florentine merchant. Thus this intrigues and

makes the art more fascinating (Sullivan et al., 2022). The art was developed between 1503

and 1506, and Da Vinci's unique technique of sfumato, chiaroscuro, the blending of colors

and at the same time interplaying light and shadow to portray a more realistic portrait of an

individual and at the same time capturing both their emotions and personality makes the art

more fascinating.

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

The art was created during the 19th and 20th centuries during the Art Nouveau

movement. The Art Noveau movement aimed to break traditional art forms and embrace new

styles (Artincontext, 2022). The art also depicts the secessionist movement in Vienna and

Austria, which aimed at challenging and establishing various forms that explored human

connection. The painting shows a man and a woman, and the kiss depicts the two lovers'

passion and desire for each other (Artincontext, 2022). The artist used a black and white

chessboard to show the male power, while the woman's dress was covered in patterns and

voluptuous circles to depict feminity and the womb.

Comparative Analysis

Mona Lisa

The art is a portrait of a woman believed to be Lisa Gheradini, with a mysterious

smile. The art depicts how the subject is positioned centrally, with a landscape background

and a winding path which enhances the artwork (Sullivan et al., 2022). Da Vinci focused

mainly on the subject's face and enigmatic smile to create an intimate connection with the

viewer.

The Kiss

The painting shows a couple who are locked together in an intimate embrace. Both

figures are asymmetrically adorned with geometric patterns (Artincontext, 2022). The artist

used gold to give the viewer a sense of opulence and passion.

Cultural and Symbolic Influences

Mona Lisa

Several historical and cultural contexts surround the Mona Lisa artwork (Sullivan et

al., 2022). The historical significance of Monalisa represents class and wealth, which is

characterized by her dress; her dress also depicts the magnificent enigma and mystery,

making it more appealing to its viewers (Sullivan et al., 2022). The artwork also shows Italian

individualism, curiosity, and also knowledge.

The Kiss

The kiss outlays the organic style of art known as Art Nouveau, which was mainly

among the Arts and Craft movements (Artincontext, 2022). The art was influenced primarily

by the Middle Ages, and gold religious art was regarded as a sacred art form among artists

during the Byzantine Empire (Artincontext, 2022). The cultural significance of the art is that

it outlays a state of union that is both spiritual and erotic and binds the individuals into an

eternal cosmos. The art also depicts various figures unintentionally of how humans perceive

romantic love and that it is a universal feeling.
