EDUCATION:

● Bachelor of Arts from Saint Michael’s College (2019)

● VT Licensure/Middle Level Endorsement
● Major(s): Secondary Education and History
● Minor: Spanish
● GPA: 3.72

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

● (Current) Full-Time Teacher at SHSF Bennington, VT (2020-24)

I began teaching at SHSF in Bennington, VT during the COVID-19 pandemic as a

young teacher. It was the most challenging and demanding experience I have
undertaken in my professional career. I was initially hired to teach social studies and
physical education. I quickly adapted to the dynamic nature of working in a small
private school in Southern VT, where versatility and wearing multiple teaching hats
became second nature. With the support of a strong community I was up to the task.

Last year an opportunity presented itself when our English teacher retired, and I was
asked to teach both ELA and social studies for grades 5-8. Despite the difficulties of a
new position I embraced the experience and searched for ways to better serve my
students. What I realized during this transition was that I would like to know more
about how to address the literacy needs of my students going forward whether that be
in the capacity of an English teacher or social studies. My bachelor's degree is in
education and history which left me to fill in the gaps. For example, I developed a
classroom library with a diverse range of books including graphic novels, novels in
verse, audiobooks, fiction, nonfiction, etc. I aligned the standards I was provided with
new innovative practices such as First Chapter Fridays and Flashlight Fridays, as
well as book clubs. It was a fun way of engaging student interest in reading that I
never knew of before becoming an English teacher. Certainly, I never experienced
these methods of learning when I was a student in school. I am constantly asking my
students to challenge themselves and continue to grow. Now, I need to continue
learning new ways of engaging students and meeting their fundamental literacy needs
so that I can grow in the way I ask my students to.

This is where my interest in pursuing the SNHU Masters of Education in Reading

started. I realized the significance of continued learning and professional
development. This program is exactly what I am looking for to help me develop my
skills as an educator. This program will provide me with the knowledge and tools
necessary to address the needs of my students and become a more adept educator,
especially those students with learning differences. If I am accepted, my goal is to use
the information I learn to create a more inclusive and effective learning environment
and curriculum for my students. I am eager to continue my professional growth and
make a positive impact on the education of my students.
