Compliance with the Essential Requirements of 1999/5/EC
3.1. Article 3.1(a)
The protection of the health and safety of the user and any other person, including the objectives with
respect to safety requirements contained in directive 73/23/EEC but with no voltage limit applying.
3.2. Article 3.1(b)
The protection requirements with respect to electromagnetic compatibility contained in Directive
89/336/EEC.

6.5. Review of Phenomena Required But Not Tested

The Evolution series was tested at nominal supply voltage only. The manufacturer has declared that
the equipment has integral DC-DC regulators in the IFU and ODU which are used on all the DC
sources actually used for carrier generation. So in accordance with EN 302 217-2-2, testing is not
required at extreme voltage limits. The declaration also states the equipment complies with the
specification requirements for the whole declared environmental profile. The testing carried out is
therefore deemed acceptable and no further testing is required.
EUT product hardware and software versions were not defined in any of the test reports. It is the
responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that RTTE Directive conformance is maintained for all
versions of the Evolution Series hardware and software that is placed on the EU market.
6.6. Review of Product Variants

The Evolution series is a software configurable product that consists of an indoor unit (IFU) and
outdoor unit (ODU) connected by coaxial cable. The IFU can accommodate 1-8 ODU’s capable of
operating in different frequency bands which can be configured to work as a Synchronous (SDH) or
Plesiochronous (PDH) Digital Hierarchy radio for connection with TDM and Ethernet based networks.
The product is marketed to cover three segments:
Evolution Series METRO – SDH
Evolution Series XPAND – PDH
Evolution Series IP – Ethernet
The channel capability and modulation characteristics of the Evolution Series are software
configurable to provide optimum spectral efficiency. Different types of traffic system interfaces are
accommodated by changes of interface modules and software.
For each frequency band the EUT was configured with an IFU and a single ODU, in the worst case
operating mode for specification compliance as declared by the manufacturer.
The following table are the Evolution series models and efficiency classes that have been tested and
proven compliant to the requirements of EN302 217-2-2. This demonstrates compliance to Article 3.2
for the product variants in these frequency bands and model configurations.

3.2 of the R&TTE Directive.
A notified body opinion certificate is included which may be used as a standalone document as an
