Video Lesson (downloaded from Facebook and YouTube)
II. Procedures:
A. Preliminary Activities:
 Reminders
 Roll Call
 Singing (It’s Science Time Again)
B. Reviewing the previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
Ask: What are the parts of the male and female reproductive
system?
Grade 5- HUMAN REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM __ SCIENCE 5 (Video)
C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Ask: Who among you has already had the first monthly period?
What did you feel? How did you react?
Integration and application of English literacy.
Integration and application of Health.
D. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
Show a picture of the menstrual cycle.
Tell pupils that like water cycle, there is also a cycle in female’s
menstruation.
But unlike the water cycle, the female menstruation cycle occurs
once a month. And every female/girl can tell when it happens.

Integration and application of Mathematics: tell the number

of days in a month and half of the month.

Show them the video from facebook.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Write the name of each phase being illustrated in the cycle.

Discussion of the key concept:

Phases of Menstrual Cycle
 Menstrual Phase (Menstruation)- This commonly referred to as
“period” or the woman’s monthly bleeding. The first menstrual
bleeding of a woman is called Menarche. It signals the
possibility of getting pregnant. Menstrual blood, known as
menses, is shed from the thickened lining of the uterus, known
as endometrium. Menstrual blood from the uterus passes
through the cervix, to the vagina, and out through the vaginal
opening. This fluid may be bright red, light pink, or even brown.
 Follicular Phase- (Day 1-13) This phase also starts on the first
day of menstruation, but it ends on the thirteenth day of the
menstrual cycle. In this phase, the lining of the uterus starts to
grow or proliferate due to a hormone known as estrogen.

 Ovulation Phase (Day 14)- In the regular 28-day menstrual

cycle, the ovulation usually occurs on day 14. The pituitary
gland secretes a hormone that causes the ovary to release the
matured egg cell. The released egg cell is swept into the
fallopian tube by the cilia of the fimbriae. Fimbriae are finger-
like projections located at the end of the fallopian tube close to
the ovaries, and cilia are slender hair-like projections on each
fimbria. When a mature egg (ovum) is released from the ovarian
follicle to the nearest fallopian tube during the menstrual cycle,
ovulation occurs.

 The Ovulation
Luteal Phase Phase This phase starts on the fifteenth day
(Day 15-28)-
and lasts up to the end of the cycle. After the ovulation occurs,
the follicle develops into a hormone-producing structure called
the corpus luteum.
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to formative Assessment 3)
Individual or Grouped Activity.(Differentiated Teaching)(To be
accomplished within 10 minutes.)
Group 1: Easy (5-Quizon)
Name the phases of the menstrual cycle. Choose the answer from
the box provided.

Luteal Phase Menstrual Phase

Ovulation Phase Follicular Phase

Group 2: Average (5-Ruiz)

Describe each menstrual phase in the table below. Choose the
answer from the box.  usually occurs on day 14
 starts on the fifteenth day and
lasts up to the end of the
Luteal Phase Menstrual Phase cycle
 starts on the first day of
Ovulation Phase Follicular Phase menstruation
 commonly referred to as
“period”
Group 3. Difficult (5-Ruiz)
Answer the question: What preparation will you do in this phase of
life cycle that will help you accept the change that your body will go
through as you enter the puberty stage? List down at least two.
(Integration and application of English: Literacy)
G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living
Ask:
Girls: How will you take good care of your body?
Boys: What significant insights have you gained that help you
understand the situation that females go through in this life cycle?
(Integration and application of Health and Mathematics)
H. Generalizing concepts and skills in daily living
What are the phases of the menstrual cycle?
I. Evaluating learning
