As educators, our main goal is to create an environment that nurtures curiosity, exploration, and

engagement. The purpose of education is not to mediate information between teachers and students but to ignite
a sense of wonder and admiration for learning. I envision myself to be that beacon for students and guide them
on the right path to being successful members of society. During my teaching career, I hope to continue learning
and to be a guiding presence for my future students.
My teaching philosophy encompasses several core values, one being nurturing curiosity among my
students. In order to know whether a teacher is nurturing curiosity, you have to take into consideration both the
resources that are available and the overall learning environment they create. In my experience, a classroom
should be a positive working environment where all ideas are valued and represented. My intention in my
classroom is to design my lesson plans around asking thought-provoking questions and encouraging
discussions that make students think beyond the given borders. I want to help students find that spark of
interest in learning and wanting to know more about how the world works. This will be done through engaging
activities, interactive lessons, and collaborative work where all students feel heard.
In addition, encouraging exploration is another core value I emphasize in my teaching. Allowing
students the chance to interpret, investigate, question, and test is how students make sense of their
surroundings. My intention for teaching exploration is to use an inquiry-based approach which has students
make real-world connections through exploration. Teachers can use this approach by having students
problem-solve with one another and learn from their findings. Ways I plan to implement this approach is by
having observational field trips, science experiments, and classroom debates. These tactics have students make
their own inferences on what they observe and develop their own ideas.
The final core value that I find important in my teaching is creating an environment that is engaging
for my students. Student engagement is the cornerstone of a successful classroom as it increases focus,
participation, and overall understanding. I plan to use student-based learning where the learning process lies on
the students to determine the flow of the lessons. This coincides with my other two core values as curiosity and
exploration promote student engagement in the classroom. I strive to create a classroom that makes students
feel excited to learn and collaborate. Regardless of the obstacles my students may be facing outside of the
classroom, I want to make it clear that my classroom is a welcoming environment where engagement is
encouraged.
As I progress through my teaching journey, I intend to continue learning how to be a well-rounded
teacher for my future students. With my core teaching values of nurturing curiosity, encouraging exploration,
and fostering engagement, I hope to be a beacon of knowledge for my students to turn to at any stage of their
education journey. By the end of every school day, I want my students to leave my classroom knowing that it is
not only a place of learning but a place full of comfort and support.
