FUNTIONS AND ITS TYPES
{Functions is a relation with some rules}

Defination:-

A relation or operation involving one or more variables.

Example:

 f(x) = x2
 f(x) = Sin(x)
 f(x) = 1/x

TYPES OF FUNTIONS:-
o The types of functions are defined on the basis of mapping, degree, and math concepts. The
expression used to write the function is the prime defining factor for a function.
o The function y= f(x) is classified on the into different types of function, based on the factors
such as how they have been mapped, what is their degree, and what math’s concepts they
belong to.

Linear function:-

Defination:

Linear functions have a constant rate of change, resulting in a Straight-line graph.

Equation:

The general form is y= mx+b, where “m” is the slope and “b” is the y-intercept.

Properties:

 They have a constant slope, and their graph is a straight line.

Algebraic Functions:-

Defination:

An algebraic function is a type of function that contains algebraic operation.

 Algebraic functions involve the variables and constants connected through different
operations such as addition, subtractions, multiplications, division, exponential and
etc.

Example:

 f(x) = 2x+5
 f(x) = x3
 f(x) = 2x3+x-2

Graph:

o Algebraic functions can be plotted on a graph, each type of a function created a

different type of a graph.

Even Functions:-

A function is said to be even when f(-x) = f(x).

 This function is symmetric with respect to y-axis.

 Even function has the property that their fourier series (a way to represent functions as sum of
sine and cosine functions) only contain cosine terms.

Example:-

 f(x) = x2
 The graph of parabola centered on the y-axis.
 f(x) = cos(x)
 The graph of the cosine function, which is symmetric about y-axis.
 f(x) = |x|
 The absolute value function, which is symmetric about the y-axis.

Graph:
Odd Function;-

A function is said to be an odd function when f(-x) = -f(x).

 An odd function creates a group where line is symmetrical about the origin.

Example;

o Some examples of odd functions include, x, x2 and x5.

o Just like even function, other functions can be odd, like the sin(x) function.
 Sin(-x) = -sin(x)

Injective Funtion:-

An injective function has many properties.

 One element from the domain will point to one elemnt in the range.
 Their may be elements in the range that donot have a pair in the domain.
 This type of mapping is also khown as “one to one” function.

Surjective Function:-

A surjective function has many properties.

 All elements in the domain will have a match in range.

 Their may an element in the range that matches with more than one of the
elements in the domain.
 Their wont be any elements in the range that have no match.

Bijective Function:-

A bijective function has many properties.

 It is a combination of injective and surjective function.

 There is a perfect amount of element in both the domain and range that
match, there are no elements that are left out.

Exponential Function:-

Defination:

 Exponential functions involve a constant base raised to a variable exponent.

Equation:
 The general form is y=ab^x, where 'a' is the initial value and 'b' is the base
and “x” is the exponential value.
Properties;
 They exhibit rapid growth or decay and never reach zero (unless 'b' is
between 0 and 1).

Trigonometric Functions:-

Definition:
 Trigonometric functions relate angles to the lengths of sides in right triangles.
Equations:
 Examples include sine (sin), cosine (cos), and tangent (tan) functions.
Properties:
 They have periodic behavior and are often used to model periodic
phenomena.
Graphs:
Piecewise Functions:-

Definition:
 Piecewise functions combine different functions over different intervals.
 A function that is defined on a sequence of intervals.
Equation:
 It consists of multiple equations with specified domains for each segment.
Properties:
 They allow modeling complex relationships using simpler functions.
Representation:

 It is represented by y = │x│.
