 Introduction
➢A road roller (sometimes called a roller-
compactor or just roller) is a compactor type
engineering vehicle used to compact soil,
gravel, concrete, or asphalt in the construction
of roads .
➢Road rollers use the weight of the vehicle to
compress the surface being rolled (static) or
use mechanical advantage (vibrating).

B. Double Drum Vibrating Roller

➢These are surface rollers that apply the
principle of kneading action below the surface.
➢They may be self-propelled or towed.
➢ Pneumatics are used on small-to medium-size
soil compaction job, primary on bladed
granular base materials.

 4.Sheep-foot Or Pad-foot Road Roller
➢ These rollers have steel wheels equipped with
cylindrical pad.
➢ The sheep foot roller is suitable for compacting
all fined-grained materials, but is generally not
suitable for use on cohesion less granular
materials.
➢ These rollers are usually found as towed drum
models.
➢ The pads on a sheep drum penetrate through the
top lift and actually compact the lift below.
