1. GENERAL
The document covers the safe work procedure, cable laying on cable trenches & above
ground works carried out by Seduan Jaya Trading Company

2. SCOPE
This method statement outlines the basic sequence of events that will be taken for cable
laying on cable trenches & above ground works. All activities / steps shall be performed in
line with the Job Hazard Analysis and Quality procedures.

4. HEALTH AND SAFETY

4.1 General

It is the intention of Seduan Jaya Trading Company that all the cable installation is
carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Health and Safety and any other relevant
legislation. Seduan Jaya Trading Company personnel shall attend Site Safety Induction
Course before carrying out work on site.

4.2 Safety Handbook

It is the responsibility of all Seduan Jaya Trading Company personnel to be familiar with
the latest revision of the Company’s Safety Handbook. The Safety Handbook details the
responsibility of the Company and the individual regarding Safety Regulations.

4.3 PPE Requirement

The minimum requirement of personal protective equipment is as follows:-


• Approved Safety Helmet
• Approved ear defenders/earplugs
• Approved Safety footwear
• Safety Eye protection
• Approved Leather hand gloves
• Coverall
• Safety harness with 2 lanyards shall be worn when working at height

4.4 Job Hazard Analysis

The Job Hazard Analysis is attached with this document.

5. RESPONSIBLE PERSONS

Activities associated with cable installation shall be carried out by suitable experienced,
trained and skilled personnel. Electricians and Workers will respond to the appropriate
Supervisor.

6. MATERIAL DELIVERY PLAN

The cable will be transported to work site using a lorry and then it is stored in lay down
area at site then it will be delivered to the respective supervisors. Safety Material handling
procedure shall be carried out for the material transport to site.

7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The Low Voltage cable installation shall be based on the reference documents and
materials / tools and equipments are as per the following.

7.1 Required tools and equipments

To cable installation following equipments will be used.

• Hand tools.
• Cable cutter (different size & type) may be hydraulic (or) Electrical (or)
mechanical.
• If any other special tools need to use on site will be announced for approval.
• Safety harness with 2 lanyards (working at height)
• Cable jack / stand (unreel the cable from the cable drum)

Seduan Jaya Trading Company shall inspect all equipment colour coded accordingly
before commencement of work.

8. PROCEDURE

Sequence of Activities / Task Steps:

ACTIVITY 1: Preparation and Site Survey - Mobilization of cable drum to the designated
area
• Work Preparation. Supervisor to brief the foreman and the workers on the
content of the SOAP, Method Statement & Job Hazard Analysis.
• Cables shall be IR tested to check its insulation quality when received from
warehouse
• Supervisor must ensure the permit is approved and all necessary kits are
available and mobilized to site.
• Allocation of tasks. Verify the correct routing of the cable to be laid from
the approved construction drawing.

ACTIVITY 2: Cable pulling & laying

• Cable to be unreel from the cable drum where proper cable jack stand to
support the drum is in place. Work area to be barricaded and posted with
warning signage.
• Cable to be laid carefully on the cable ways.

ACTIVITY 3: Backfilling white sand & compaction

• Manual backfilling and compact ground using sand and compactor


• Pump out water in the trench

ACTIVITY 4: Protection tiles

• Installation of protection tiles after manual backfilling of white sand and


compaction ground.

ACTIVITY 5: Cable route maker


• Installation of cable route maker at unpaved area.

ACTIVITY 6: Housekeeping

• Maintained good housekeeping at all times.


• Unused materials left at site.
• Segregate material properly.
