Health is Wealth

Health is a major concern for the people in today’s world. It is everyone’s desire to
have good health and live a happy life. It is challenging to keep ourselves healthy and
fit but it is not impossible. It is not necessary that the people who do not have any
disease are healthy and fit. It is because good health means fit in all terms i.e.
mentally, physically, and socially.

Good health is most essential than having a lot of money and valuable things in life.
Everything can only be enjoyed only when we have good health. In search of earning
more money and earn promotion, people neglect their health. It is our responsibility to
take good care of our health and live a healthy life. The act of adopting a healthy
lifestyle and avoiding stress are the ways to be healthy.

The rising pollution level in the environment is a major problem for all of us. It reduces
the quality of the environment and makes it unsuitable for living. Air pollution has
been the main cause of different types of respiratory diseases in human beings. The
only way to get rid of this issue is to put an effort into reducing the pollution level as it
is a major threat to health.

People who are healthy and fit have good stamina and stronger immune system. The
stronger immunity helps to protect them from different types of diseases. It is
therefore advisable that we must always keep ourselves healthy and fit.

A Letter from…

Dear Human Beings,

I am a mountain gorilla and I am writing to you on behalf of myself, my family and my

fellow mountain gorillas, but most importantly you.

We all know that habitats of animals everywhere in the world are being destroyed, but
the extent of the problem is unimaginable. In recent years the mountain gorilla
population has depleted down to a figure of around 880 gorillas left in this world. If
something is not done, we will not be around much longer.

We, mountain gorillas are a particularly special group of creatures and are extremely
near to becoming extinct. Researchers have said that because of being over hunted,
the extermination of habitats and pollution, the number of mountain of gorillas is
decreasing. When various creatures become extinct, it also affects the fate of other
animals, so it has a wider effect on the entire animal community and humans too.

We are highly sociable animals and live in sizeable groups. The female gorillas have a
young every three or four years. Nearly half of the offspring will not live until
adulthood. Females mature at an age of nine to twelve years. The males however do
not reach their full extent of growth until eleven or twelve years of age. An adult male
weighs around 181 kg and stands around a height of around 1.6 m. Adult females
weigh about 90 kg and are 1.5 m tall. You can find mountain gorillas in the Virunga
Volcanoes, which are situated in Zaire, Rwanda, and Uganda.

We, the mountain gorillas have an important role to play in the environment. If we do
not eat the vegetation, the natural balance in the food chain would be disrupted. This
could negatively affect other wildlife in the area, and ultimately the people who depend
on that environment for food, water and other resources.

I am appealing to you because there are many other species besides ours are facing
threats of extinction. The future of Earth’s animals is at the hands of humanity.

You are going to read about Different Types of Shoppers
Six sentences have been removed from the text. Choose from the sentences (A -H)
to fill in each gap (35-40). There are two extra sentences which you do not need to
use. For each question, write your answer in the space provided on your answer
sheet.

Different Types of Shoppers

People of all ages are engaged in some form of shopping. Some people shop
out of necessity, while others do it for leisure. Regardless of the reason, our own
unique shopping habits are closely linked to our personality and spending power.

We have the impulse shoppers who buy things mostly based on their whims and
fancies. 35
35 Their spending habits depend greatly on their emotional state. 36

Then, there are the bargain shoppers. 37 These shoppers love looking out
for all sorts of available discounts at the shopping mall, be it a store-wide discount, a
member’s discount or even a credit card discount. 38 They also pride themselves
for getting a really good deal from the sale at the store.

39 They will often terrorize the sales assistants at the store with a myriad of
unreasonable requests. These hard-to-please shoppers will often linger in the store for a
very long time. 40

These are the three main groups of shoppers that can be found at any shopping
outlet and most of us will probably be able to relate to one of these types of shoppers.

A Lastly, we have the fussy shoppers who are nightmares for many sales
assistants.
B They are constantly hunting for discounts at the stores.
C Thirdly, we have the target shoppers who do not like to spend long hours in
the shopping mall.
D These are the people who are most likely to end up overspending.
E You will find these shoppers walking aimlessly in the shopping malls.
F They enjoy the thrill of being able to acquire items at a lower retail price.
G This group of people may not have anything in particular to buy, but will still go
shopping spree or engage in ‘retail therapy’ when they are feeling down or upset.
H These shoppers will browse through every item before picking out a few that they
fancy.

Khair,
I saw your note sharing about the shoes that you liked and seeking my advice on
what you should do next. My advice is for you to ask your parents for the other RM 100 to
cover the shortfall. The reason being, the sale may not last long. It is not advisable that
you work part time, when it is so close to the end-of-year exams.

That’s what I would do if I were you.
