Semi - Detailed Lesson Plan in Reading for Grade 5 Struggling Learners

I. Objectives: After the lesson, the pupils are expected to:


1. Determine the moral lesson of the story;
2. Understand the story through asking questions;
3. Compose questions based from the story.

II. Subject Matter: Building Reading Comprehension Through Art of Questioning

III. Procedure:
1. Introduction/Warm Up:
A. Motivation:

Can you name the animal in the picture?


What other questions can you ask about the picture?
Say: Today we will read a story about the animal in the picture.
We are going to determine the moral lesson of the story, understand what
the story is about through answering and asking questions, and we will
compose questions based from the story.

B. Unlocking Difficulties:
 goose - a web-footed swimming birds, most of which are
larger and have a longer neck and legs than the ducks
 laid - to put or set down
 imagine - to form a mental picture of: use the imagination
 shocked - surprised or upset because something unexpected and usually
unpleasant has happened
 innards - the organs inside a person or animal (Integration in Science)
 enough - in or to a degree or quantity that satisfies or that is sufficient

C. Motive Question:
 What do you think will happen to the goose and the golden eggs?

2. Teaching/Modelling:
Present the story entitled “The Goose with the Golden Eggs” through video
presentation.

Say: I will read first the story about the picture,


while you will all listen to me. Then you will
answer the comprehension questions.

(The teacher read the story.)
