4-2 Construction and Principle of Operation

The oil filter is composed basically of a body①, a lower case②, a filter element③,etc.
The filter is so designed, the hydraulic oil entering from oil inlet flow into the lower case
through the body, and the oil is filtered as it passes through the filter element from outside
toward the center. The filtered oil is allowed to flow out from the center of the filter element,
pass through the inlet and leave the filter from oil outlet.

・ Relief valve (optional)

In response to excessive clogging of the filter element with resultant pressure loss beyond
the preset limit, this valve is opened to let the oil bypass the filter element and flow
outdirectly from oil outlet, thereby protecting the filter element against damage. The valve
hasbeen set to be activated on a pressure rise of 0.35 MPa(3.5 kgf/cm2).

・ Differential pressure type indicator (optional)

Two types of optional indicators are available. One is a visual type indicator(I series)
whose indication turns red from green when its detects a pressure difference in filter
element that exceeds preset limit between primary pressure(fluid inlet side) and secondary
pressure (fluid outlet side). The other is an electric contact type visual indicator
(E series) that transmits an electric alarm signal.

5. Transportation
Caution
* When lifting the oil filter, screw eyebolts in the mounting taps(d1 )provided in the housing
and sling it with wire rope applied through the eyebolts.
* Wire roping and lifting must be done by qualified persons.
* Be careful not to turn over the oil filter or let it fall from a height. Avoid danger.

(1) Cover the oil filter to protect against rain in transit.

(2) Do not turn the oil filter over or fall. Do not impart shocks.

6. Storage
If the oil filter is not used immediately, store it with particular attention paid to the
following.
(1) Keep it in a clean and dry room.
(2) If it is stored outdoors or in a humid place, cover it tightly with a vinyl sheet or
equivalent.

7. Installation
Caution
* Anchor the oil filter firmly on the foundation using mounting taps provided in the housing.
* Connect pipes oiltight.
* Never mount on or hang from the oil filter, or it may be damaged or an injury may be
suffered.Installation, operation, maintenance and checking must be performed by skilled
persons with expertise. Unqualified persons may cause oil leaks or suffer an injury.

(1) Location and ambient conditions

Location: Indoors
(where little dust raises, water is not splashed on and there are no flammables)
Ambient temperature: 0℃~80℃
(2) Before connecting pipes, make sure of the locations of oil inlet and outlet. Be sure that
the lower case down. The flow direction of oil is arrow marked on the body.
Ascertain that the direction is correct.
(3) In installing the oil filter, secure the housing braced up with brackets from foundation
to mounting taps.
(4) Connect pipes to the filter using care so that the housing is not excessively stressed.
(5) Connection ports without companion flange have JIS B 0203 pipe taper female threads (Rc).
Before screwing in pipes, make sure that male threads meet specification. An attempt to
screw pipe in Rc threads forcibly may result in a damaged housing. Carry out pipe connec-
tion using Table1.Recommended Tightening Torques for IN/OUT Rc Threads as a guide.

【 Recommended Tightening Torques for IN/OUT Rc Threads as a guide.】

Designation Thread Size Tightening Torque
03 Rc 3/8 4.0 kgf・m
04 Rc 1/2 4.5 kgf・m
06 Rc 3/4 7.0 kgf・m
08 Rc 1 9.0 kgf・m
10 Rc 11/4 15.0 kgf・m
12 Rc 11/2 20.0 kgf・m
16 Rc 2 25.0 kgf・m
Table 1 20 Rc 21/2 30.0 kgf・m
24 Rc 3 45.0 kgf・m

(6) When installing, allow sufficient space for maintenance work in future. Be sure to provide
an element allowance enough to enable easy replacement above the housing.

8. Operation
Caution
* Service pressure (including pressure variations) must not exceed 3.5 MPa{ 35 kgf/cm2}.
Use under any higher pressure may result in a damaged filter.
* The oil filter becomes very hot during operation. Stay away from it to avoid burns.

(1) Make sure that service conditions are as specified in 3. Leading Particulars in this manual.
When the oil filter is used in a hydraulic system, its selection according to system press-
ure setting may turn out to be wrong in that the pressure actually imparted to the filter
may be higher than the set level. In the case of use in a hydraulic circuit that undergoes
continuous pressure variations, consider, not system pressure setting but circuit peak pres-
sure,to be maximum service pressure.
(2) Starting with a low flow rate, introduce hydraulic oil into the oil filter up to the speci-
fied flow rate.
(3) Check the housing for abnormal noise or vibrations. If any abnormality is detected, stop the
pump immediately and check for the cause.

9. Maintenance and Check

9-1 Daily Check

(1) Check the filter element for clogging periodically through differential pressure indicator.
(2) If the oil filter has no indicator connected to it, check the oil being filtered on a sche-
duled basis and replace the filter element according to the degree of decline in filtration
effect shown by the oil. Continued use of a clogged filter element causes the relief valve
to open to let contaminants flow out of the oil filter, resulting in a malfunctioning system.
(3) For filter paper elements, semiyearly replacement is recommended to maintain their perfor-
mance, regardless of condition.

9-2 Replacement
Caution
* Stop the hydraulic unit and ascertain that the filter pressure is zero before replacing the
oil filter.
* Keep the oil filter away from anything flammable during replacement work.

(1) Stop the hydraulic unit, and after ascertaining that the filter pressure is zero, remove the
drain plug⑤ to let remaining oil out of the housing in its entirety.
(2) Rotate the lower case② and hang to a square or hexagon head by wrench. When it come to turn
lightly, go on rotating by the hands and pull the lower case②.
(3) Pull the filter element③ down to remove from the body①.
(4) Cleaning makes wire gauze and notch wire filter elements reusable. See [9-3 Cleaning Wire
Gauze Filter Element] for details. In the case of filter paper element, replace it with a
fresh one.
(5) Replace the "O"rings ⑧ and ⑩. Inspect the faces of seal aren't wounded injured, and the
inside aren't became dirty. If the condition are unwell, repair it.
(6) Insert a fresh filter element in the inlet of under body. Install the spring④ and screw the
lower case② to the body①. At this assembly, make sure that the filter element has
"O"ring⑨.Tighten the Tightening Torques by approx.2kg・m. If tighten strongly, result of
seal efficiency won't change. So that, please be caution over tighten the case.
In the case of installation, please perform removal of oil of the body① and the screw part of
lower case② enough.
After installation, Residual oil bleeds and may mistake it for oil leak.
(7) Tighten the drain plug⑧ securely.

9-3 Cleaning Wire Gauze Filter Element

Clean the filter element with light oil (kerosine, gas oil, etc.) in the following manner.
(1) Shake the filter element in four directions in the cleaning oil.
(2) Brush the filter element carefully to remove sludge.
(3) Blow off residual accumulations with an air spray.
(4) Rinse the filter element well and dry with an air spray.

《 Note 》
The above way of cleaning is effective for wire gauze filter elements up to 40 microns in
mesh size. In the case of wire gauze filter elements below 25 microns, remove surface accumu-
ations mostly by the above method and clean completely by ultrasonic cleaning without fail.

In the cleaning tank, place the top and bottom of the filter element on the vibrator side al-
ternately and clean. While it depends on the capacity of the ultrasonic cleaning equipment
and the amount of sludge on the element, the cleaning time should be at least 1 hour.

10. Replacement Parts

Keep the following parts available for replacement at any time.
At the replacement of the filter element, exchange to the fresh seal parts.

・ Spare filter element

・ "O"Rings and Packing
