ONLINE DATA ANALYTICS

Overview

Make data driven decisions!

Data Analytics helps organizations harness their data and use it to identify new opportunities. That in turn,
leads to smarter business moves, more efficient operations, higher profits and happier customers. Data
Analysts can contribute to companies through cost reductions efforts, quicker decision making through
automated analysis, and developing new products and services by leveraging data trends.

Amazon Career Choice: Data Analytics

This course is designed to equip students with industry-standard data analytics tools and skills. First, using
python, participants will learn to clean, process, explore, analyze, visualize, and model various kinds of data,
with a focus on practical knowledge. Participants will learn Python, Pandas, Relational Databases and SQL,
Exploratory Data Analysis, and best practices for data visualization with packages such as matplotlib and
seaborn.

Then, students move from basic to intermediate descriptive and inferential statistics, allowing participants to
bring scientific rigor into their data analysis and to tell better, more accurate stories with data. Participants
will learn about the best practices for cleaning, combining, and pulling insights from disparate data sources,
as well as common mistakes to avoid.

By the end of this course, students will also be able to identify statistically significant trends and
communicate them effectively to technical and nontechnical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner. Finally,
students will be experts at data extraction from SQL servers and how to clean that data for effective analysis.

Career Services
As part of Amazon Career Choice, this course is designed to prepare students for careers in data outside of
Amazon. Graduates of this program will be equipped for a wide range of jobs across the data industry.
Sample alumni job titles include:
● Data Analyst

CURRICULUM

Data Analytics
Our Data Analytics curriculum will prepare you to use descriptive statistics and basic models to
generate insights about data. This program is designed to help you develop the skills you need for a
career as a data analyst, data engineer, and business intelligence analyst. Passionate people with
strong critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, are a good fit for this program. Students will
cover these 5 phases over the course of 32 weeks:

Python Fundamentals & Descriptive Statistics

Learn coding basics in Python through the analysis of descriptive statistics, central
tendencies, and dispersion in basic datasets.

Loading, Cleaning & Visualizing Data for Exploration

Use SQL to query data and discover the challenges of messy data and learn common
cleaning practices and visualization techniques for data exploration.

Inferential Statistics & A/B Testing

Learn the backbone statistics involved with inferential analysis and develop an
understanding of how to conduct A/B tests.

Inferential Modeling
Students will learn and run simple regression and multiple regression models and
compare metrics to determine best performing models.

Capstone Project
Students will take all they’ve learned so far to conduct a final data analysis project.
Instructors will work with students to source data and scope objectives of the analysis.

CURRICULUM

Data Analytics: An In-Depth Look

Python Fundamentals & Descriptive Statistics

This phase will focus on developing core coding skills in Python through the analysis of descriptive
statistics, central tendencies, and dispersion in basic datasets. The course will cover how available
data might be used to solve problems and create value for an organization. Students will study
Python, Numpy, CLI, and Git.

At the end of this section, students will be able to:

● Use CLI to interact with packages, programs, and environments.
● Write and leverage Python object and class structures.
● Use loops and functions to complete iterative tasks.
● Use Numpy for descriptive statistics.
● Use Git for version control.

Cleaning & Visualizing Data for Exploration

This phase will highlight the challenges of messy data and teach common cleaning practices and
visualization techniques for data exploration. Building off the fundamentals of Python, students will
study various libraries used for data analysis and visualization, such as Pandas, Matplotlib, and
Seaborn. Students will also learn how to connect and query relational databases using SQL.

At the end of this section, students will be able to:

● Connect to and query relational databases using SQL
● Gather data from external sources
● Wrangle and clean datasets with Pandas to prepare them for analysis.
● Explore and describe data with summary statistics and visualizations in Matplotlib and
Seaborn.
● Use imputing strategies for dealing with missing data.
