Statement of Purpose

The BBC article titled “US heatwave leads to rising number of burns” addresses two major
issues that have caught my attention due to their significance and implications. Firstly, the article
demonstrates the alarming increase in severely burned patients as a result of continued
heatwaves in the United States. The dangerous heatwave has resulted in scorching hot objects
and surfaces, such as concrete and asphalt, causing contact burns to people who carelessly come
into contact with them. The issue is obviously concerning, as it poses severe health risks,
particularly to vulnerable populations like children, the elderly, and those experiencing
homelessness. The rising number of patients suffering from heat-related burns highlights the
serious need for public health awareness and targeted interferences to alleviate the impact of
such severe weather events. Secondly, the article underscores the pressing need for sustainable
energy solutions in the face of climate-driven extreme weather events. The demand for power
has been driven up due to increased air conditioning consumption, intensifying the strain on
energy resources and contributing to the challenges driven by change in climate. It is crucial to
address this issue to decrease the heatwave’s intensity and frequency, safeguarding health and
building resilience in communities.

As a- potential candidate for a bachelor’s degree in health and social care, these issues are
significantly relevant to my chosen subject area. The implications of heat-related burns highlight
the importance of a fully organised healthcare system to address urgencies and provide effective
and timely treatments. Understanding the symptoms and management of heat-related illnesses
will be necessary knowledge for professional in health and social care who may encounter such
severe weather conditions affected patients. Furthermore, the demand for climate adaptations
measures and sustainable energy solutions aligns with the boarder goals of health and social care
professionals to contribute to overall betterment and address environmental elements of health. I
aspire to contribute to the broader efforts of promoting health and environmental sustainability
by developing a comprehensive understanding of sustainable energy practices.

In light of my reading, I have anticipated potential questions and actions that can be undertaken
to overcome these challenges. How can we enhance the outreach programs and early warning
systems to safeguard vulnerable groups during heatwaves? What initiatives can be implemented
to ensure equitable access to shelters and cooling centres for the homeless? Engaging in research
and advocacy and exploring these questions can aid in developing effective response policies and
strategies to protect communities from the extreme effects of heatwaves.

In five years from now, I see myself as a highly motivated and accomplished healthcare
professional. Holding a bachelor’s degree in health and social care, I envision myself actively
engaged in rewarding career that empowers me to make a noticeable change in the lives of
people. I aim to provide quality care to individuals in need as a member of a compassionate and
dedicated healthcare team to promote positive health outcomes and ensure their well-being. In
addition to my role within a clinical or hospital setting, I desire to be actively engaged in
community health initiatives. Through educational seminars and health assessments, I hope to
raise consciousness and enable individuals to take charge of their health. I envision myself as an
advocate for equitable access to healthcare, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive support
they need and working towards breaking barriers. Ultimately, I am motivated by my strong
desire to assist those in need and my commitment to fostering more compassionate and healthier
society. By combining my knowledge, skills, and empathy, I am confident that I can make

profession. The health and social care sector provides a platform for promoting improved
healthcare policies and advocating for public health initiatives. If I become a part of this ever-
changing field, it would enable me to engage in initiatives that address inequalities, societal
health challenges, and accessibility to healthcare services. I am keen to take part in developing
and implementing programs that enhance health outcomes and empower individuals to lead
healthier lives. Furthermore, the multidisciplinary nature of the industry fascinates me. Working
collaboratively with various team of healthcare professionals, support staff, and social workers
provides a holistic approach to addressing complex health issues. This teamwork underscores the
significance of effective communication coordination, which I am keen to cultivate. Overall, the
health and social care industry presents a purpose-driven and fulfilling career path that gives me
the opportunity to make a substantial positive impact on people’s lives.
