Severity of the problem
Funding for the Affordable Care Act is paid for with a combination of cuts
in government spending and new revenue from several sources, including
tax increases
Population in need vs. population
served
Population in need:
Low-income families, Hispanic or Latino people are among the highest
uninsured population in the United States
Population served:
The affordable care act serves low-income families and households with
incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level
Policy outcomes
11.4 million people are enrolled in plans for health insurance coverage
through the affordable care act
The affordable care act protects people with preexisting conditions from
discrimination
The affordable care act also established guaranteed issue, which means
that insurers must issue policies to anyone and can no longer turn away
people based on health status
Changes/ improvements/ strategies
One improvement with the affordable care act is more coverage options
because people that are insured with this act are limited to fewer
providers they can see
A strategy to improving this act would be to allowing more coverage and
finding other funding without having tax increases
