SECTION A
1. Which among the following statement(s) is (are) true? Exposure of silver chloride to sunlight for a long
duration turns grey due to
(i) the formation of silver by decomposition of silver chloride
(ii) sublimation of silver chloride
(iii) decomposition of chlorine gas from silver chloride
(iv) oxidation of silver chloride
(a) (i) only (b) (i) and (iii) (c) (ii) and (iii) (d) (iv) only
2. The chemical formula for plaster of Paris is:
(a) CaSO4 · 2H2O (b) CaSO4 · H2O (c) CaSO4.½ H2O (d) 2CaSO4 · H2O
3. Zinc granules on treating with a substance X, form a salt sodium zincate along with the evolution of a
gas Y which burns with a pop sound when brought near a burning candle. Identify the substance X and
gas evolved Y.
X Y
(a) Acetic acid Hydrogen
(b) Sodium hydroxide Hydrogen
(c) Sodium hydroxide Oxygen
(d) Zinc hydroxide Hydrogen
4. Identify the option from the table given below that correctly represents the cation and anion in the
formation of Magnesium Chloride.
Option Cation Anion
(a) [Mg ]
+ [Cl-]
(b) [Mg+] 2[Cl-]
(c) [Mg2+] 2[Cl-]
(d) [Mg2+] [Cl2-]
5. The decomposers in an ecosystem
(a) convert inorganic material, to simpler forms
(b) convert organic material to inorganic forms
(c) convert inorganic materials into organic compounds
(d) do not breakdown organic compounds
6. Identify the processes marked X and Y in the figure below:
(a) X = Roasting, Y = Electrolysis
(b) X = Calcination, Y = Roasting
(c) X = Calcination, Y = Electrolysis
(d) X = Electrolysis, Y = Roasting
7. Which of the following are correct structural isomers of butane?
a. Equivalent resistance
b. Total current drawn from the battery
c. Potential difference across AB.
31. What are various ways to avoid pregnancy? Elaborate any one method.
32. How is the sex of a new born genetically determined in humans ? “In human beings, the statistical
probability of getting either a male or female child is 50 : 50”. Justify this statement.
33. Crosses × represent a uniform magnetic field directed into the paper. A conductor XY placed in the field
carries current in Y to X direction.
Find the direction of the force experienced by the conductor, direction of force if the direction of field
and direction of current both are reversed and also state rule applied.
SECTION D
34. When a sodium compound „X‟ which is also used in soda-acid fire extinguisher is heated gives a sodium
compound „Y‟ along with water and carbon dioxide. „Y‟ on crystallisation forms a compound „Z‟.
(i) Identify „X‟, „Y‟ and „Z‟.
(ii) Write the equation showing the products obtained on heating „X‟.
(iii) How can we obtain Y from Z ?
(iv) Write two uses of the compounds „X‟ and „Z‟ . [1+1+1+2]
35. (a) Define power of a lens. What is its unit? One student uses a lens of focal length 50 cm and another of –
50 cm. What is the nature of the lens and its power used by each of them?
(b) A convex lens forms a real and inverted image of a needle at a distance of 50 cm from the lens. Where
is the needle placed in front of the convex lens, so that this image is of the same size as the object? Also,
find the power of the lens.
36. (i) Give reasons:
a. The lungs are designed in human beings to maximize the area for exchange of gases.
b. The rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than that seen in terrestrial organisms.
(ii) What is the advantage of having Four-Chambered heart? Draw neat and clean labelled diagram of
human heart
SECTION E
37. The production of hydrogen from water via electrolysis is a clean process, resulting in only oxygen being
produced as a by-product. If the electricity required to split the water into hydrogen and oxygen is
supplied via a renewable energy source then the process is environmentally benign. The water
electrolysis hydrogen (oxygen) plant is equipment that electrolyzes water to produce hydrogen and
oxygen by using lye as an electrolyte.
(A) Distinguish between pollination and fertilisation. Mention the site and product of fertilisation in a flower.
(B) Distinguish between self pollination and cross pollination.
(C) Draw a neat, labelled diagram of a pistil showing pollen tube growth and its entry into the ovule.
