APPLICATION OF INTERMOLECULAR FORCES OF ATTRACTION

1. MEDICAL IMPLANTS
The human body is vulnerable in which result in loss of functionality, the use of
standardized parts and mechanism in the form of protheses/ medical implants was introduced as
a replacement of human skeleton.
Electron Beam Melting
Electron beam melting uses powdered Titanium to be melted on the surface of the cast
creating dimensionally Accurate prosthesis.
Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Procedures
The production of prostheses that is unique to one patient. It also involves titanium and
zirconium deposition to create a surface that is porous and fibrous similar to bone to increase
compatibility.
Pyrocarbon
Pyro carbon is a carbon-based material like graphite. Pyro carbon has a stronger force and has
the ability to distort itself which lead to improved durability, doesn’t have harmful reaction, and
resist blood clotting when implanted than graphite.
2. SPORTS EQUIPMENT
Application of intermolecular forces use polymer materials such as polycarbonate
and polyurethane in the field of sports not only increase the sports efficiency and
effectiveness of a play but also to minimize the possible injuries of athletes.
Polycarbonate
A thermoplastic containing phenyl groups. The presence of phenyl group enable
polycarbonate to molecularly stiff or highly tough. It also has good thermal resistance
and highly amorphous, which allows light transparency.
Polyurethane
A thermoplastic containing urethane group and is characterized by its versability
in form. It can be a rigid platform or a flexible coating, depending on its specific purpose.
Its innate ability to recover quickly in terms of absorption of force and pressure is used to
minimized the possibility of injuries.
3. ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Innovations on electronic devices are geared toward sustainability of renewable
energy.
Graphene is an allotrope of carbon that is used in electronic devices and solar
panels because of its electrical conductivity and optical transparency. Two methods can
be used to obtain graphene. These are scotch tape and liquid phase exfoliation.
4. CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY
Construction and furniture business shifted from the excessive use of synthetic
materials to the gradual inclusion of materials from natural settings.
The trend in these sectors is to produce products and structure that are energy efficient,
biologically safe, recyclable and most importantly low carbon footprint to lessen
greenhouse effect.
5. HOUSEHOLD GADGETS
Innovations in household gadgets involve major automation and less physical
intervention or manipulation from the people using them.
