Top size:
- Instructions are given for bra cup sizes A/B/C/D (sizes XS/S/M/L).
Please note that cotton yarns tend to be stretchy.
All measurements should be taken without bra.
In photos given for this pattern I capture the progress of crocheting a small (cup size B) top. Photos
ar given for illustrative purposes only.
Materials:
- 2 skeins of black cotton thread. I used Basic Cotton Pro Lana thread. Info on Ravelry:
https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/pro-lana-basic-cotton.
You may use any cotton yarn of similar sport weight.
NOTE: depending on your individual body measurements, desired length of laces and tension you
might need more or less thread. Please consider this before starting this project.
- Size 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- OPTIONAL. Any desired beads or other ornaments to decorate your top. Also, if you do not want to
crochet laces, you may buy ribbons and attach them to the top instead of crochet laces on the back
side of the top.
Difficulty: intermediate
Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sk st – skip stitch
Sl st – slip stitch
Sc – single crochet stitch
Hdc – half double crochet stitch
Dc – double crochet stitch
Tr – treble crochet stitch
Qdr – quadruple crochet stitch
Qnt – quintuple crochet stitch (long dc stitch)
PART 1. Cups
Row 1.
Yarn over, insert your hook into 4th of the chain and crochet a dc. Then crochet 12/16/20/24 dc in each ch
and in the last ch crochet 5dc. Complete the row by crocheting 13/17/21/25 dc, as shown in the photo. Turn.
Row 2.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 14/18/22/26 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 15/19/23/27 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 16/20/24/28 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 17/21/25/29 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 4.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 18/22/26/30 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 19/23/27/31 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 5.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 20/24/28/32 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 21/25/29/33 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 6.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 22/26/30/34 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 23/27/31/35 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 7.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 24/28/32/36 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 25/29/33/37 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 8.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 26/30/34/38 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 27/31/35/39 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 9.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 28/32/36/40 dc in each st, 5dc in the same st (in the middle st of the row). Complete
the row with 29/33/37/41 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 10.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc) and continue crocheting dc to the end of the row. You should have 63/71/79/87 dc in
total.
Break yarn and fasten off.
Mark 2 middle stitches of the cup with 2 pins, as shown in the photo.
2nd cup:
Please use descriptions of Rows 1-9. There is no difference in pattern.
Row 10.
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 30/34/38/42 dc in each of the following st. Join 2 cups with sl st (as shown in the
photo below) and continue crocheting dc to the end of the row.
DO NOT break yarn and continue to the lower part of the top.
2. LOWER PART
Row 1:
Ch4, sc into 4dc of the previous row, ch2, sk 2 st, sc and repeat 1 (for size A) / 2 (for size B) / 3 (for size C) /
4 (for size D) times, ch2, sk 2 st, hdc, ch2, sk 2 st, dc, ch2, sk 2 st, dc, ch2, sk 2 st, tr, ch2, sk 2 st, tr, ch2, sk
2 st, qdr.
Keep crocheting this row to the 2nd cup in reverse way: sk 2/3/4/5 st, qdr, ch2, sk 2 st, tr, ch2, sk 2 st, tr,
ch2, sk 2 st, dc, ch2, sk 2 st, dc, ch2, sk 2 st, hdc, ch2, sk 2 st, *sc, ch2, sk 2 st, sc (from here continue to the
end of the row). Turn.
Row 2:
Ch3 (counts as 1st tr) and continue crocheting tr to each st to the end of the row.
Row 3:
Ch5 (counts as 1st dc and ch2), *ch2, sk 2 st, dc (from * continue to the end of the row).
Row 1:
Insert the hook into the corner of the top, ch5 (counts as the 1st dc and ch2), *sk 2 st, dc, ch2 (from * repeat
5/6/7/8 times), tr, ch2, sk 2 st, qdr, ch2, sk 2 st, qdr, sk 2/3/4/5 st and then go in reverse way with sk 2/3/4/5
st, qdr, ch2, sk 2 st, qdr, ch2, sk 2 st, tr, ch2, sk 2 st, *dc, ch2, sk 2 st (from * repeat 5/6/7/8 times), complete
the row with ch2, sk 2 st, dc. Turn.
Row 2:
Ch2 (counts as the 1st dc) and continue crocheting dc to each st till the end of the row.
Row 3:
For cups A/C: Ch20, sk 2 st, sc, *ch20, sk 5 st, sc (from * repeat 2/3 times more), ch20 (this is the central
chain), sk 11 st, sc, *ch20, sk 5 st, sc (from * repeat 2/3 times more), complete the row with ch10, sk 2 st,
yarn over 5 times (as shown in the photo), complete a long dc into the last st of the row. Turn.
For cups B/D: Ch20, sc in the same st, *ch20, sk 5 st, sc (from * repeat 3/4 times more), 20ch (this is the
central chain), sk 11 st, sc, *ch20, sk 5 st, sc (from * repeat 3/4 times more), complete the row with ch10,
yarn over 5 times (as shown in the photo), complete a long dc into the same st. Turn.
Row 4:
*Ch3, sc in the middle of the ch20 space (* repeat these steps till the end of the row). Turn.
Row 5:
Ch2 (counts as the 1st dc) and continue crocheting dc to each st until the end of the row. Turn.
Row 6:
Ch5 (counts as 1st dc and ch2), *ch2, sk 2 st, dc (from * continue to the end of the row). Turn.
Row 7:
Ch2 (counts as the 1st dc), *dc in the next st, ch2, sk 2 sc, dc (from * continue to the end of the row), dc. Turn.
Row 8:
Ch5 (counts as 1st dc and ch2), *ch2, sk 2 st, dc (from * continue to the end of the row). Turn.
Row 9:
Ch2 (counts as the 1st dc) and continue crocheting dc to each st until the end of the row.
2) Insert the hook in the 2nd from the chain and continue crocheting sc in each ch.
Then continue crocheting sc in each st of the row 9.
Make another tie according to instructions given in 1) and 2).
4. BACK SIDE
Insert the hook into the left low corner of the top.
Row 1:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 2dc on ch, 22 dc. Turn.
NOTE: Your dc stitches should be evenly spaced along the side of the piece.
Row 2:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 24 dc. Turn.
Row 3:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 22 dc, 2dctog (start decreasing the number of dc in the row). Turn.
Row 4:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 23 dc. Turn.
Row 5:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 21 dc, 2dctog. Turn.
Row 6:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 21 dc. Turn.
Row 7:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 19 dc, 2dctog. Turn.
Row 8:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 20 dc. Turn.
Row 9:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 18 dc, 2dctog. Turn.
Row 10:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 19 dc. Turn.
Row 11:
Ch2 (counts as 1st dc), 18 dc. Turn.
Note: this is the last row before making holes to insert laces. If you feel that this back side part is too short
for you, you may make it longer by repeating steps described in row 11 for as many times as needed.
Insert the hook into the right low corner of the top and repeat steps described for rows 1-12.
When you finish crocheting both back side parts, you need to crochet ties that will join them together.
Crochet a chain of 250 (longer or shorter). Sc in the 3rd from the hook and crochet sc along.
