CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
The ABM strand helps students gain a thorough understanding of
business and management fundamentals, which is extremely beneficial
to those interested in becoming accountants. It is geared toward students
who are interested in business, finance, entrepreneurship, and
accounting. And intended to prepare students who wish to pursue
accountancy.
Accounting is one of the key functions of almost any business

(Jason, 2023). It might be managed by a small business's bookkeeper or
accountant, or larger firms' huge finance departments with several dozen
staff members. Management can make well-informed business decisions
with the aid of the reports produced by the several accounting streams,
including cost accounting and managerial accounting.
According to seph, ABM Strand prepares SHS students for a

business course in college by introducing the basic subiects of
Accountancy, Business, Management, Economics, Finance, and
Marketing. Choosing to study ABM can help you advance your career in
a variety of management and accounting fields, such as project
management, bookkeeping, clerical accounting, sales management,
internal auditing, and human resources. While a student's senior high
school strand may not directly affect their academic achievement, a lack
of alignment between their high school and college experiences may
negatively impact their transfer and academic performance (Alipio,
2020).
Students would benefit from selecting the appropriate track or
strand that corresponds with their course. For instance, in order to
prepare for college, our prior knowledge can help with our studies.
Develop pertinent talents: We can begin developing pertinent skills early
on by selecting the strand that aligns with us. Finally, selecting strands
that don't align with the college course we choose can save time and
money, however you might need to spend more time studying to catch
up. By selecting the appropriate strand, we can prevent this. Making
educated decisions on schooling and career choice can be aided by this.
Students who have selected a route that is not optimally related to their
field of study may have to navigate a more difficult and complex
journey, which may obstruct their ability to succeed academically as
well as personally (Malbas, 2023).
In addition, choosing one’s track or strand in the Senior High

School is a tough decision for incoming Accountancy students. If we
intend to study accounting in college, we should select the ABM strand
due to the fact that it will be more useful in our future accounting
studies.
This study determined the effectiveness of ABM Strand for

Accountancy Student more useful in accounting studies. The study
concluded that ABM strand better qualifies students for the Accountancy
degree. The result is important for government regulators such as CHED
and DEPED, as well as school deans, heads, and accounting teachers in
senior high and college.
Statement of the Problem

The general problem of the study is the effectiveness of ABM Strand for
Accountancy Students on Academic and Career Preparedness.
Specifically, the study seeks answers to the following questions:
1. What description might one provide the profile respondents?
1.1 College Students
1.1.1 Course of college students
1.1.2 Strand in Senior High School
1.1.3 First year College
1.1.4 Academic Achievement
2. What is the experience of selecting a course-related strand like?
3. How well does the ABM Strand for Accounting course work?
4. What advantage does your accounting course's ABM strand offer?
5. What benefits does the pertinent ABM subject offer you in the
accounting course?
Significance of the study

In an accounting education, studying the ABM strand can be
beneficial in a number of ways and help students get ready for a
successful accounting job.
Learners. By pursuing the ABM strand in an accounting

course, students stand to get a thorough understanding of financial
management, business operations, and accounting principles. They will
have the abilities and know-how to succeed in their accounting
coursework and future employment thanks to this information.
Academic Institutions. By creating graduates with a solid

background in accounting and business management, academic
institutions that provide the ABM strand for an accounting course stand
to gain. By demonstrating their ability to fulfill market expectations and
provide high-quality education, these institutions can draw in more
students interested in studying accounting.
Employer. ABM strand in an accounting course is beneficial

to employers looking to hire accounting professionals. Graduates with a
background in ABM bring to the workplace a strong grasp of financial
analysis, accounting principles, and commercial decision-making.
Because they may effectively contribute to financial reporting, analysis,
and decision-making processes, they become important assets to
enterprises.
Accounting Profession. Accounting profession as a whole

benefits from the effectiveness of the ABM strand in preparing future
accountants. Graduates with an ABM background bring a diverse skill
set that goes beyond technical accounting knowledge. They understand
the broader business context, possess critical thinking skills, and can
contribute to strategic financial planning and analysis, ultimately
enhancing the profession's reputation and value.
Economic Growth. Economic growth is facilitated by the

ABM strand's efficacy in accounting courses. In terms of planning,
decision-making, and financial management, accountants are essential to
businesses. Accounting professionals that are well-prepared have a
favorable impact on the economy as a whole by helping to ensure
sustainable growth, financial stability, and efficient resource allocation.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the ABM
Strand on academic and career preparedness for accounting students.
A phenomenological research design will be employed in this

qualitative study. Making use of a phenomenological design, focus
groups, individual interviews, and survey questionnaires will all be used
to gather data. A study on academic and career preparedness that aims to
unravel the usefulness of the ABM Strand for accounting students.
The study's variables consist of the Academic achievement,

strand in Senior High School, course, and first-year college students. The
location is a private institution in the Cavite district, specifically Granby
Colleges of Science and Technology located at Ibayo Silangan, Naic,
Cavite. There are exactly four (4) people who will be taking part in the
interview; they are all first-year accounting majors from Granby College
of Science and Technology.
