• Chronological Timing Techniques use “time” as milestones.
• Normally it is used to differentiate the era.
• Example :
• The 80’s – The 90’s – The 2000’s
• Past – Present – Future
• Childhood – Teenager – Adult

Start from the End
• In this technique , we start from the end-result / Output / Goal
or Target. Them move backward to how we do / process to
achieve the Output , than move 1 step backward to think what
is needed as Input.
• It uses to give picture of what goals that want to achieve , how
to make it and what needed.
• Example :
Output : Win the sport Competion
Process : We have to practice with the right exercise.
Input : We need talent athlete and the right coach .

• The structure of 3 Point of View give information from many angles. Sometime
Required empathy or data to support.
• It uses to explain something / issue from different angles.
Example :
1. An IT Project is considered success , may have different view from each
stakeholders.
Consultant Side It should be profitable
Company side It should add value
Employee Side It should make process easier.
2. Good school may have different criteria :

For Parents Good Curiculum, Good Facility.
For Teacher Good remuneration
For Student Cool class mate , good canteen, no homework

Problem,Root-Cause &
Solution
• ‘Problem, Cause & Solution’ can be used to explain what is the issue , what is the
‘cause’ and what is the solution to solve the issue.
• How to do :
1. Define the problem
2. Explore the potential cause & find the root-cause
3. Think Possible Solution
Example :
Problem : procurement process are slow, How to make it faster ?
Cause:.
- No clear define requirements ( what to purchase)
- Approval process takes time
- Process are manual , paper based.
Solution :
- Implement ERP – Procurement Module. With Release strategy (e-approval)

• ‘Option , Pro-Cons& Recommend” technique normally is used in decision making
process or reviewing a proposal.
• How to do :
List option / Alternatives
Explore the Pro & Cons of each options
Recommend things that gain benefit and avoid the contra or find the middle way
Example :
There are 3 ways to go to Bandung from Jakarta
Option 1 = Go by Car
Pro-Cons:
+ Flexible . We decide our own route & speed.
- need to have/rent car , buy gaz , etc
Option 2 = Go by Train
Pro-Cons:
+ Relax , Can sleep .
- Need to book ticket , follow schedule, waiting.
Option 3 = Go by Plane
Pro-Cons:
+ Fastest time travel
- Expensive , still to follow flight schedule. + -

• Zoom Technique

Geographical Scope
• This technique use location as reference.
Although not 100% precise, It helpful to classified something based on the
geographical position.
Example :
Many Multi National Company , define their business operation as follows
1. America & Canada Region
2. Eropa & Middle East Region
3. Asia Pasifik Region
Indonesia has 3 times region

1. West Indonesia Time
2. Central Indonesia Time
3. East Indonesia Time

Functional Scope
• This technique differentiate something based on functional / departmental.
• Similar with ‘3 point of view ‘ , the different is it view from functional or
departmental
Example :
An ERP software implementation can create Benefit and positive result :
At Finance = To monitor the Cashflow real time

At Operation = To manage operation better
At Human Capital = To Increase employee productivity

Zoom Technique
• Zoom Technique is used to explain the pattern or trend with different level .
• How to do :
1. Zoom-in Start from high-level (big) , To lower level (Smaller)
2. Zoom-out Start from lower level (Small - detail) , To bigger / higher level
Example :
1. Zoom in - In year 2000 Economic Crisis is happen Globally , all over the world. It
impact to Indonesia’s economic as well. In Cikarang , on of Industrial area , many
Multi National company had closed their manufacturing facility.
2. Zoom out - In 2010 , the economic improvement has been increased. Many
companies starts investing again in Indonesia , Asia and globally.
