Competition for Conceptual Design for Hybrid Planetarium
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority

(VMRDA) proposes to develop an Iconic Hybrid Planetarium in an
extent of 7.00 Acs. at the top of Kailasagiri, Visakhapatnam to promote
Education and Edutainment at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Interested Architects / reputed Architectural Firms across India are invited
to participate in the design competition.
1.0 Back ground:
1.1 Location: Situated on Kailasagiri hill park, Elevation: About 173

Mtrs above MSL, Geo coordinates. 17.749991, 83.338952
1.2 Features for proposed Planetarium:
 Site area of 7.00 Acs on Kailasagiri (location plan enclosed)

 175 to 200 Number seating capacity
 18 mts. Dia Dome size
 Gallery space for Science exhibits and Artifacts
 Space for workshops / conference
 Other amenities associated with Planetarium, Landscaping
and Infrastructure in and around planetarium, Parking etc.,
has to be provided.

2.0 Terms & Conditions:
2.1 Submission of entries should be only through the online link

available at www.vmrda.gov.in
2.2 Last date for accepting entries is on or before 23rd March

2020 by 5.00 pm. Online application will be available from
forenoon of 4th March, 2020.
2.3 All Designs submission should be either in .pdf or .jpg file

format.
2.4 An entry could be of an individual or team.
2.5 The design must be original and should not violate any
provisions of the Indian copy right Act, 1957 or the Intellectual
Property Rights of any third party.
2.6 The design must not have been previously submitted to any
other agency / Organization or to Digital Media.
2.7 In case of any copyright issues, VMRDA will not be responsible.

The participant will be responsible to settle any legal
proceedings arising out of it.
2.8 Plagiarism of any nature is not allowed. Infringing on other’s

copyright will be disqualified from the contest.
2.9 The participant should make sure that details provided in the
application form are accurate and updated. Incomplete/Wrong
details will not be considered.

2.10 In case of consortium, the onus will be on the participants to

prove that he / she is the only authorized representative to send
the entry for this competition. In case of the selection of the
Design for Award, it will be given to the participant only.
VMRDA will, in no way, be responsible for any dispute, legal or
otherwise arising out of it.
2.11 Each participant / team can submit only one entry and the
submission of entry is free.
2.12 The responsibility to comply with the terms & conditions for
submission of entries fully lies with participant(s) and VMRDA
shall not be answerable to any dispute raised by the third party.
2.13 VMRDA takes no responsibility for corrupted or late entries.
2.14 The winning design shall be the intellectual property of the

VMRDA and the winner shall not exercise any right over it.
VMRDA will have unfettered right to modify the Award winning
design. The winner will not exercise any right over his / her
design and he / she shall not use it in any way.
2.15 There will be no notification to participants on rejected entries.
2.16 VMRDA reserve the right to cancel or amend all or any part of
this contest and / or Terms and Conditions / Technical
Parameters / Evaluation Criteria. However, any changes to the
Terms and Conditions / Technical Parameters / Evaluation
Criteria, or the cancellation of the Contest, will be updated /
posted on the platform through VMRDA official website
www.vmrda.gov.in. It would be the responsibility of the

participant to keep himself / herself informed of any changes in

the Terms and Conditions/ Technical Parameters / Evaluation
Criteria stated for this contest.
2.17 Family members of the Employees / Officers of VMRDA and
selection committee are debarred from the competition and
entries if any received shall be summarily rejected.
2.18 The result will be declared through official website of VMRDA

only
3.0 Eligibility Criteria

3.1 The applicant should be an Architect/Architectural Firm
empanelled from Council of Architecture(CoA), New Delhi,
India.
3.2 Designs submitted should be inclusive of Elevation/

2-dimensional elevation / sectional elevation, Aesthetics
inside and outside the Planetarium Building, Preliminary
Techno-feasibility report.
4.0 Selection and Evaluation Criteria
4.1 The selection of designs received within due date and time
shall be evaluated through the selection committee appointed
by the Metropolitan Commissioner, VMRDA.
4.2 The Best there (3) designs would be short listed and called for
Presentation. Prizes would be awarded only after
presentation of the design.

4.3 The prizes would be as follows:

 1st prize - Rs.2,00,000/-
 2nd prize - Rs.1,00,000/-
 3rd prize - Rs.50,000/-
4.4 In case of no entry is worthy of any prize, none will be
awarded.
4.5 VMRDA will have full right to set condition for selection, right
to use, right to reject etc. No claim in this regard will be
entertained after receipt of entries.
4.6 The short listed applicants invited for presentation shall be

paid To and Fro economy class air fare.
4.7 The selection of designs / declaration of the result by the

Metropolitan Commissioner, VMRDA on the
recommendations of the committee would be final & binding.

competition from the official website http://www.vmrda.gov.in. Sign the terms and
conditions, sign on each page and upload along with your plans online)
