It’s About the Soldier
In today’s rapidly evolving security landscape of Capabilities:
unconventional battlefields, irregular warfare and
reemerging linear battlefields, our soldiers need to • Detects and Classifies Hostile Indirect Fire;
quickly locate and neutralize rocket, artillery and mortar Rockets, Artillery and Mortars
threats. The AN/TPQ-53 (formerly known as EQ-36)
meets this challenge head on. • Reports Launch and Impact Point Locations

• Provides Friendly Fire Registration

The AN/TPQ-53 Radar System is a highly mobile radar
that detects projectiles in-flight, and determines the
• Remote operations via Optic Cable Control
firing point location of rockets, artillery and mortars
up to 1 km
(RAM.) It is deployable, proven and capable of operation
in extreme terrain and climatic conditions. The system
• Links to Shooters (through AFATDS and
provides both 90* and 360*azimuth detection coverage FAADC2)
against all threats at increased ranges relative to legacy
systems, ease of programmability and growth. • Emplace – 10 Minutes (System Auto-Levels)

The Q-53 is battlefield-proven by the U.S. Army. LM has • Displace – 5 Minutes

delivered over 190 Q-53 radar systems and continues to
produce for Foreign Military Sales.

The Q-53 is maneuverable and easily maintained.

The system is designed to operate in a wide range
of weather conditions.

Mounted on its 5-ton FMTV prime mover, the Q-53 can be rapidly deployed and integrated into the tactical
battlefield with heavy, medium and light forces. The Target Acquisition Subsystem contains the radar on a
singleprime mover and tows the power generator. This package performs all missions of the Q-53 for shorter
durations.

A second prime mover carries an operations control shelter, backup power generator, and two additional
soldiers to provide a sustained operations capability.
