     To strengthen the foundational, social, and other relevant skills
    of learners;
     To reinforce learning and enhance reading comprehension of
    learners; and
     To develop critical thinking, improve vocabulary, speaking and
    communication skills.

    Report

    Catch up Fridays aims to improve the implementation of


    DepEd Matatag Education which is anchored to the adoption of the
    National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP).
    Based on the memorandum issued, all schools in the country
    should roll out the National Reading Program through activities such
    as Project DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) It started on Friday
    January 12. The first half of the day should focus on reading while the
    second half on fostering Values, Peace and Health Education .
    Homeroom Guidance is also included in Catch Up Fridays.
    Catch Up Fridays is on its fifth week on February 16, and
    San Gabriel Elementary School is in full support in implementing the

    program. Hence, various reading activities were given to pupils giving


    special attention to those with reading problems. Reading activities
    such as read-a-thon, reciting rhymes/poems, journaling, book report,
    role playing, peer teaching, group reading, one-on-one, reading with
    comprehension check up, and many more.
    Reading is really important and should be given more time and
    effort as this is the students’ instrument for learning other subjects. Natural
    love for reading should be developed in each of the learners to be able to
    think critically. Speaking skills, communication, vocabulary, comprehension
    are also enhanced and improved.
    Teachers also prepared different reading materials before Friday
    especially both for fast readers since they finished right away and needed
    more challenging topics and for slow readers who needed more time to
    interact with text.

    Outcome Pupils enjoyed the reading activities and looking forward to more exciting
    Catch Up Fridays.
