ACTIVITIES
Pre-lesson: Teacher introduces the famous topics of mysteries around the world and pupils can share the
ones they know as well. Ex: Sherlock Holmes, Bermuda Triangle)
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupils refer to the questions in Activity 1 in textbook page 122. Teacher discusses the questions with
pupils. Teacher asks pupils what are the characteristics of a good detective. Pupils think and share their
thoughts.
2. Pupils refer to Activity 2. Pupils copy the questions into their exercise books. Pupils read the script and
answer the questions.
3. Pupils refer to Activity 3. Pupils scan the text for the words from the vocabulary panel and work out the
meaning based on the context.
4. Teacher explains that pupils are going to scan the script for words related to robbery. Teacher tells
pupils to write the word crime in the middle and add subcategories like people, things, actions. Based
on the script pupils add words to their mind map.
Post-lesson: Teacher draws the mind map on the board and pupils volunteer to fill in the map with the
words they have found.

understand.
4. Teacher demonstrates the game. In pairs, pupils take turns to toss the coin: one space for heads
and two spaces for tails. If the game piece lands on a question, pupils must answer the question
correctly to stay on that position. The first to reach the end game is the winner.

time they should focus on the places the people like to go. Teacher plays the video or audio 2.30.
2. Pupils refer to Activity 5 in textbook page 83. Pupils write the key phrases with gaps in their exercise
books and complete it based on the audio played earlier.
3. Pupils refer to Activity 6 and read through the two holidays. Teacher checks if pupils understand the
details. In groups, pupils choose which holiday to discuss. Then, pupils work individually within their groups
and list things they might need for the holidays.
Teacher writes ‘I think we need…. It’s good to have…. It depends where…’ on the board. Pupils use the
phrases on the board to discuss in their groups and agree on the things.
4. Pupils take turns to share with the class what they have decided to bring and why.
Post-lesson: Teacher asks pupils what is the most important thing for each holiday.

given some time to think. Pupils write their reasons.
4. Teacher asks pupils what they think might happen at the end. Pupils share their ideas.
5. Teacher writes sample ideas for the next part of the story. Teacher explains to pupils that pupils are
going to write the next part of the story in just a paragraph with at least 6 sentences. Pupils write their
ideas.

3. Teacher draws the table on the board and asks for volunteers to fill in the table on the board.

2. Pupils refer to Activity 2. Pupils copy the exercise and write the person that could be related to the
phrases. Pupils check their answers by checking.
3. Pupils refer to Activity 3. Pupils copy the questions into their exercise books and close the textbook.
4. Pupils listen to audio 2.31 and answer the questions.
Post-lesson: Teacher writes some words in blue on the board (new, cold) and pupils must find out the

Pre-lesson: Pupils play a game. Once teacher says Go!, pupils must write as many beach safety rules
as they can. Pupils stop once teacher says Stop!
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupils refer to textbook page 109 and are explained about the activity. Using some of the safety rules
that they have written earlier, pupils in groups of 4 create a beach safety poster. Pupils can use picture
by the boy in the textbook as a sample poster.
2. Pupils create their poster on a white A3 paper. Teacher assist pupils to construct sentences if
needed.
3. Upon completing their poster, pupils are asked to practise their presentation. Everyone in the group
must be involved in the presentation.
4. During presentation, other groups take note of the safety rules mentioned that are not in their own
poster.
Post lesson: Pupils share other beach safety rules that they have discovered from other groups.
