SECTION A: Comprehension Passage

PATRIOTISM AND HOW O SHOW IT
Patriotism is how we show love and our readiness to serve our country. If we are
patriotic we must be loyal to our country and not our ethnic group. Patriots must speak well of
their country at all times. If Patriots are outside their country they must not say or do any thing

should be ready to serve. If there had been no patriotism on the part of the Nigerian armed

As citizens of Nigeria, we should be loyal to our government – state, and federal. We

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follows
A drug is any chemical substances other than food which is intended to affect the structure and

or unjustified reason.
Drug use refers to the taking of medication for an intended purpose in an appropriate amount,
frequency, strength and proper manner. It has been discovered, however, that many people divert the
use of drugs from the original purpose for which drugs are meant. Drugs can be used for various reasons.
They can be used to relief pain after injury or during illness to relieve insomnia(lack of sleep) and,
therefore, to induce sleep. Many drugs are used to treat ailments or disease. Drugs can also stimulate
organs or body functions, calm mental pains (e.g., tranquillizers), as well as treat or calm epileptic

DOGO WANTS MALE CHILDREN
‘Falta’ he would say to me, ‘what is the use of sending a female child to school? if she turns out well, the
man she marries gets the benefit of her education. If she gets spoilt in the school, I get the blame. Its my name that
gets dragged through the mud. Its my house that becomes her refuge. Which ever way you look at it the father of
the female child is the looser. Let the girl stay at home and help their mother, when it is time for them to marry let
them marry.
If I had sons now, mu name would be carried from generations to generation, my wealth will multiply ten
folds but not so with daughters. They are consumers and they let other people consume your wealth. While your
name dies out, the daughter continues the lifeline of another man in another family.’

engrossed in a romantic conversation on the phone with his newly found black American girlfriend to listen to the nurse. Their
conversation centered on where, how and when they would celebrate valentine’s day. The nurse desperately tried to get Dr.
Sabito’s attention but did not succeed. Rather he frowned at her screams since they were making it difficult for him to make out
what his sweetheart was saying. In anger, he shouted at the nurse ordering her to go for Doctor Mensah, his colleague, who
was then attending to other patients. With frustration written on her face, the nurse rushed to look for Mensah. In no time the
doctor arrived at the casualty ward. Scarcely had he begun to attend to the comatose victim when she gave up the ghost.
On searching the clothe of the dead young lady, the nurses found her I.D card which bore the name ‘Mariam Ama
Sabito’. This was anxiety as everyone in the casualty ward was very curious to find out whether she was in any way related to
