SECTION A: Comprehension Passage
Read the following passage and answer the questions that follows
PATRIOTISM AND HOW O SHOW IT
Patriotism is how we show love and our readiness to serve our country. If we are
patriotic we must be loyal to our country and not our ethnic group. Patriots must speak well of
their country at all times. If Patriots are outside their country they must not say or do any thing
that will harm the country even if they are not happy with the government.
If Nigerians are called to serve Nigeria in anyway, either in time of peace or war, they
should be ready to serve. If there had been no patriotism on the part of the Nigerian armed
force, Nigerians would not exist today as she does. A patriotic person must place the country
above the state or ethnic group.
As citizens of Nigeria, we should be loyal to our government – state, and federal. We

PART B : COMPREHENSION PASSAGE

It was a lovely, calm afternoon that valentine’s day, though the heat of the sun was rather oppressive. About noon,
many gorgeously dressed youths started trooping into Bosomefi memorial hospital, where I was on admission to express their to
express their valentine days love to their sweethearts and to give them presents. I wasn’t left out though I didn’t see my fiancée
with three female coursemate of mine who had come and left behind assorted gifts, at the time I was fast asleep the nurses on
duty must have persuaded them nit to wake me up.
Quite frankly, I didn’t know for how long I slept after the sedative injection I had been given. But about 4.p.m I was
woken up by deafening screams outside. Curiosity besieged the patients and visitors in the ward. Some of them craned their
necks to find out what was amiss while others walked out for the same reason. It was learned that a young lady of about 25
years who was involved in a gastly car accident was brought into the hospital. She had multiple injuries and was drenched in
blood. Visitors and patient around couldn’t control their tears as she was been laid on a stretcher to be wheeled to the casualty
ward, one athletic – looking female nurse rushed to call Doctor Sabito, one of the two doctors on duty. But he was too
engrossed in a romantic conversation on the phone with his newly found black American girlfriend to listen to the nurse. Their
conversation centered on where, how and when they would celebrate valentine’s day. The nurse desperately tried to get Dr.
Sabito’s attention but did not succeed. Rather he frowned at her screams since they were making it difficult for him to make out
what his sweetheart was saying. In anger, he shouted at the nurse ordering her to go for Doctor Mensah, his colleague, who
was then attending to other patients. With frustration written on her face, the nurse rushed to look for Mensah. In no time the
doctor arrived at the casualty ward. Scarcely had he begun to attend to the comatose victim when she gave up the ghost.
On searching the clothe of the dead young lady, the nurses found her I.D card which bore the name ‘Mariam Ama
Sabito’. This was anxiety as everyone in the casualty ward was very curious to find out whether she was in any way related to
doctor Sabito. He arrived only to confirm in tears that Mariam, a final year medical student, was his only child. He cried like a
child and cursed himself for being negligent.
