DEVELOPMENT OF BAMBOO SECTOR IN THE VIDARBHA

DATE:- 28TH January 2024.

TIME:- 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Advantage Vidarbha is an initiative taken by the Association for Industrial Development (AID), the
event aims to leverage Vidharbha’s rich resources and conducive environment for economic and
industrial growth, showcasing industries, encouraging investments and helping our industrial
ecosystem. Union Minister Shree Nitin Gadkari ji addressed the cultivation of Bamboo in the
vidarbha region along with the other aspects of the goods produced by using Bamboo as the raw
material.

Bamboo is highly produced in the Gadchiroli District of the vidarbha as compared to any other
region in the vidarbha. Even the Highest forest area in Maharashtra State under the circle of
Gadchiroli i.e.523569 ha. Along with highest area under bamboo was 330580 ha as of till year 2020.
Nitin Gadkari is strongly known for emerging with alternative fuels and resources and had also
mentioned working on a project to make aviation turbine fuel (ATF) out of bamboo oil, and also
plans to set up a refinery for the production of aviation fuel from bamboo grown in Maharashtra's
Gadchiroli district. He also state that, "I am planning to set up a bio-refinery for the production of
aviation fuel. The bamboo for this will be sourced from Gadchiroli district. I have begun to work on
this and in two to three years, I will show you flights running on this biofuel” continuing this he also
mentioned focusing on the Raw material, processing cost, proven technology that to be used in the
production and finished products and its marketability. Also explained how the 20% of petroleum
will be used along with bamboo in the production of Ethanol and how exporting such a produced
goods to other countries like Bangladesh to increase the productivity of India. Ethanol enriches with
various properties such as its purported reduction in air pollutant emissions; its potential impact on
subsurface soils and groundwater; its purported reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; the energy
efficiency of ethanol; and the overall sustainability of ethanol production.

Mr. Ganesh Verma the CEO of the Bhavya Srishti Udyog Pvt Ltd gave a brief knowledge on how the
technologies can be used in the bamboo application and the production of goods along with how
they ensure a higher percentage of societal spent on development going to farmers and small
primary producers in India. They also developed bamboo industries in every region of Bamboo-
producing states.

There is a huge scope of producing Sustainable bio- aviation turbine fuel(bio-ATF) from the ethanol,
which in turn is produced using carbon di-oxide and Vidarbha can be its hub. Aviation fuels are
petroleum-based fuels, or petroleum and synthetic fuel blends, used to power aircraft. They have
more stringent requirements than fuels used for ground use, such as heating and road transport,
and contain additives to enhance or maintain properties important to fuel performance or handling.
The scope of bamboo products rely upto the demand fulfilment of the customers , quality of the
product, cost, mass application and acceptance by the public on a larger scale. Products should be
sustainable and design should be based on the public need. Normally, the design center and the
architects keep in notice the economic liability of the product and crash barrier should be cutting the
capital cost. Bamboo is still a traditional material that requires additional development before it can
be considered as a modern and reliable alternative to steel, wood, and concrete. Bamboo has
several desirable fuel characteristics such as low ash-content and alkali index. Bamboo has 50%
carbon which lent likely to get biomass converted into charcoal (also known as White Coal). Bamboo
makes excellent charcoal that meets the rural energy needs for heating and cooking has industrial
fuel and to make product such as activated carbon.

Growing investments in infrastructure development and consumer awareness of sustainable,

durable, and eco-friendly product is leading to Increasing investments in infrastructural
development are compelling manufacturers to adopt sustainable building & construction resources,
which in turn is driving sales of bamboo products. Even the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expects a
turnover around of 50,000 crore from the Bamboo industry in the future. Some Indian startups
based on bamboo products are evolving with a high rate such as Bamboostan, machau bamboo, etc.
