2023 (TRAINEE)

Ø DAY ONE - PART 2 - LOFT TRAINING.

01 - TRAINING OBJECTIVES
• Solution.
• To train the effective utilization of all crew resources during an event set, to include
leadership, managerial skills, situation awareness, crew cooperation, and decision
making.
• To reinforce the concept of the facilitated debrief using the Risk Management model
(RMM) and NOTECHS markers matrix.
• To evaluate procedures utilized for the events given. Did the crew effectively utilize crew
resources management to neutralize the situation and take to effective action?
• To train crew to offer/provide appropriate assistance and guidance to other crew members
when necessary.
• The Process of selecting a suitable airport to land will allow the application of FORDEC
and be the highlight of the debriefing.
0 2 - INSTRUCTOR'S ACTIONS
• To train line flying standard operating procedures, with emphasis on Crew Resource
Management.
• To Train for all the elements of CRM
• To train the use of FORDEC as a model of normative decision making when solving
operational problems with no based or book solution.
• Use LOFT Script A320 LOFT - 2023 – LOFT scenario Number 01
• As the lesson is scheduled on the same day as SPOT, time management is essential.
• Brief the SPOT training first, then the LOFT.
• The facilitated debrief will occur immediately following the LOFT session.
03 – STUDENT’S ACTIONS
• From ISTANBUL (LTFM) to MITIGA (HLLM), this sector is a scheduled flight AAW 971.
• Operationally significant events are incorporated to act either as distracters or to support
the CRM training objectives.
• This scenario has been designed to successfully train crew to recognize the non-technical
skills to cope with a demanding emergency. While it is well known that the scenario will
not be “secret” for too long, it has been our experience that crew attempting to “play-act,”
based on “helpful hints,” never the less causes errors to be committed and some lessons
to be learned.
In an attempt to clarify the link between “classroom” CRM and the non-technical skills required in
line operations, listed below are some behaviors that the instructor will observe during this LOFT
scenario.

NOTECHS – Leadership and Managerial Skills – Workload Management

• Programming of FMC and Briefings are completed prior to high workload phases of flight.

• Crew members ensure distractions do not divert attention from primary flight

• Prioritizing and concentrating on primary tasks first

• PF manages automated systems to reduce workload and increase situational awareness

• Does not just concentrate on secondary tasks (avoids “tunnel vision”)

NOTECHS – Situational Awareness – Awareness of Time and Anticipation

• Crew members conduct timely preparation and briefing for all normal operations.

• Crew members identify, discuss and acknowledge appropriate time limits targets.
• Crew members discuss the effects of any non-normal configuration on the conduct of the
flight

• Crew makes a timely decision to execute a missed approach.

NOTECHS – Decision Making – Risk Assessment and Option Selection

• Risks are prioritized according to the “safety-first” principle.

• Limitations of aircraft and crew are considered in the discussion of risks.

• Risks are properly assessed for all available and/or proposed options.

• Relevant outside agencies are clearly informed of decisions and intentions

Please remember,
1. You will only get out of it what you want,

2. LOFT is training, errors are expected. Learning to use the Risk Management Model to prevent
them happening again is what it is all about.

DAY 2 LICENSE PROFICIENCY CHECK (LPC) & OPC.

a. Objective: To measure individual and collective proficiency in maneuvers considered critical to safe
flight operations.

b. Planned Time: 05:30

1) Briefing: 01.00

2) Simulator Period: 04.00

3) Debriefing: 00:30

STUDENT'S ACTIONS

- This session is not representative of a line flight. It is merely intended to assess/confirm

maneuver and procedure proficiency to standards written in the AAW SOP.

- It is not required to call company, make a PA (except following a RTO or for PAX EVAC), call cabin
crew etc. as would be expected in line operations and LOFT that conducted in previous day.

- Calls to ATC will be required as per SOP.

- The Instructor will intervene to slew, reposition, and start/restore the aircraft/engines as
required by the lesson plan.

- This session begins with the aircraft positioned at the T/O point RWY 35R in LTFM (IST) Set up the
FMGC with the routing LTFM/LTFM RATVUE 4D. Use data below.
