GRASPS for the MYP Summative Assessment

Goal:
Your goal is to understand that the study of patterns leads to the understanding of the interconnections in a
system and the consequences of our actions and responsibilities to the environment and community
worldwide.

Role:
Your job is to choose between the phenomena El Niño or La Niña and make a research about it, connecting the
different factors studied in class.

Audience:
You will write your report in a Google Docs or a Google Slides, using scientific vocabulary, in a text or in bullet points.

Situation:
This ABA will provide evidence that you could understand the connections between the concepts of the class with a
phenomenon that, in fact, affects us.

Product, Performance, and Purpose:


You will create a report showing your discoveries about El Niño or La Niña in order to explain how the patterns
studied in class are interconnected and create the phenomenon you chose. You must also use pictures to support
your text.

Specifications and Criteria:


Your report should contain the following information:
- Name of the phenomenon you chose explicit on the title;
- Describe the phenomenon (El Niño or La Niña);
- Examine the weather factors involved in the chosen phenomenon;
- Explain patterns involved in the chosen phenomenon;
- Explain consequences associated with the chosen phenomenon in Brazil and in the world;
- Select and explain one or more images that represent the phenomenon with the weather factors (El
Niño or La Niña).

Your report will be evaluated according to:
