    Students continue to develop pre-reading skills by saying words with
    consonant blends, consonant digraphs, consonant controlled vowels and

    When completing the Kumon worksheets at home, please follow these steps:

    Do’s Don’ts
    Let your child write their name, date, start Ask your child to blend the letter sounds that

    Read the instructions aloud to your child. Cover the pictures and ask your child to
    guess or read the words.
    *Always read “Attention Parents” Notes on Complete the worksheet without saying the

    Make sure your child traces and copies the
    letters neatly with correct stroke order and
    the writing fits in the spaces given.
    Always have your child say the sound

    sentences aloud.
    Praise your child after he/she reads the
    words or sentences aloud.
    Let your child use the picture cues to recite
    the words if necessary.
    If your child doesn’t know a word, use the “I
    say (parent), we say (together), you say
    (child)” rule.
    Praise your child when he/she has
    completed all the worksheets.
    *Attention Parents Notes: The notes on the “a” side of page 1, 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71,
    81, 91, 101, 111, 121, 131, 141, 151, 161 contain directions to help your child blend the
    focus sounds smoothly and say the words using picture cues or the repeating rule (I say,
    we say, you say).

    Other tips to supplement Kumon at Home:


    • You can ask your child to re-read yesterday’s or today’s booklet one
    more time independently, with encouragement and praise
    • Read aloud to your child with animation and expression
    • Read their favourite books over and over.
    • You can find the books from the RAL and RRL at your local bookstore
    or from the public library.
