IIT Indore invites applications from highly motivated and research-oriented students for
admission to its PhD program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering for the
Spring Semester of Academic Year (AY) 2023-24 under Visvesvaraya PhD scheme of
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Financial Support for Full-time PhD candidates under Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme:
Fellowship: Rs. 38,750 per month in 1st & 2nd year and Rs. 43,750 per month in 3rd, 4th, and
5th year of PhD (support till PhD completion or 5 years whichever is earlier).
Research Contingency Grant Support: An amount of Rs. 1,20,000 per year for support
duration of PhD candidate.

Instructions:
1. All interested candidates, fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria, must apply online
through the website (http://academic.iiti.ac.in:8080/nregistration.jsp).
2. After applying online, the applicants should take a print out of the application form and
sign the same. The scanned copy of duly signed application form along with the following
documents should be sent by email to admission-cse@iiti.ac.in
a. Self-attested photocopies/scanned originals of all relevant supporting documents
such as degree certificates, mark sheets from 10th class onwards, date of birth
certificate, GATE score card, fellowship award letter, etc., that they wish to
present before the selection committee.
b. Two recent passport size photographs.
c. Receipt of fee (Rs.100/-) paid through SBI i-collect.
d. Letters of recommendation duly signed by a minimum of two referees, who have
known the applicant in a professional capacity, are mandatory for PhD selection
process and must be sent directly to admission-cse@iiti.ac.in

3. Important: DO NOT send any form or documents by post.
4. Online PhD written test and/or online interviews shall be conducted on November 30,
2023 (Thursday). Only shortlisted candidates will be called for online written test
and/or online interviews, and the same will be shared by email to respective
candidates on 29 November 2023, 19.00 hrs. No emails or communication, in any
form, regarding shortlisting process, change of interview date, syllabus of interview,
etc. will be entertained.

6. Mere fulfillment of the minimum eligibility criteria does not entitle anyone for admission
into the PhD program in Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Faculty Profile:
Dr. Nagendra Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering (CSE) at Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India. Prior to joining
IIT Indore, he was a scientist at Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Agency for
Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. Dr. Nagendra works in the
areas of Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Computer
Vision, Social Network Analysis, and Data Mining. He has published research papers
in several reputed journals and conferences. Currently, he is looking for a PhD
candidate under Visvesvaraya PhD scheme in Natural Language Processing, Machine
Learning and Deep Learning related areas with good programming knowledge in
Python. Interested candidates who are having background in Machine Learning as

Dr. Puneet Gupta is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department
of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Indian Institute of Technology Indore.
Prior to that, he was a post- doctoral researcher at Tampere University, Finland, where
he worked to make deep learning (DL) architectures more secure and reliable. Before
that, he was a member of the Machine Vision group in Embedded Methods and
Robotics, TCS Research and Innovation. He received his doctoral degree from the
Department of CSE, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 2016. He has
worked on fusing multiple biometric traits for authentication, analyzing facial
expressions using DL, measuring the human-vital parameters using non-contact
videos, cross-modal learning, and fortifying DL architectures using adversarial
defenses. These are indispensable in security, affective computing, and health care.
He has published several papers in reputed venues, including IEEE-TGRS, IEEE-
TAC, IEEE-TIE, Computers in Biology and Medicine, ICCV, WACV, and EMBC.
