INTEGRATED HANDLOOM
CENTER
The textile industry is one of the largest industries in India. It
encompasses a vast variety of stakeholders from the cotton
growers and the weavers to the designers. The rich handwoven
materials are preferred worldwide. But the state of its primary
stakeholder- the weavers are at risk. The handloom industry is
heavily suffering from globalization and lack of upgradation. In
order to formulate an architectural solution, it is important to
first understand the trend of the occupation and issues that
the industry faces today. This is done through various literature
studies and first-hand observations.
Aim :
The aim of the project is to study the issues faced by the Handloom Industry in kannur and prepare a
project proposal that will uplift the face of the industry.
The vision is to design a space that will be a culmination of activities for the Handloom Industry to be
used as a teaching, production, marketing and tourist destination.

Objectives
To study the history, different processes and present condition of the handloom industry in Kerala,
particularly Kannur

To design a formal space for the weavers, artisans and government offices related to handloom, to practice,
produce, teach and market the products.

To design a space that will be the pride of the Kannur Handloom Society and acts as a sorted destination
for world class designers and textile enthusiasts.
Goals
To understand the trends in the handloom industry and identify the problems that can be addressed
through this project.
To facilitate the collectivization of the production and other activities in the handloom industry to
increase efficiency.
To provide a platform for the collaboration of the weavers and designers directly and thus eliminating
the need for middle-men.
Scope
The growth of the handloom industry has drastically reduced due to lack of infrastructure and
organization for the control and production of products. With the proposal of the right infrastructure and
program, the disappearing industry can be revived.

SARGAAKAYA VADAKARA
MediaCentre
The central aim of a Media centre is to provide a facility where mainly tv production will be

happening along with other public spaces like library, amphitheatre, concert hall etc. The

television production space, commonly referred to as the studio, is still the primary location

for content capture in the television industry. The thesis is mainly focussed on planning and

designing of tv studio and other spaces which are related to it. Television production studio,

is an installation which video productions take place, either for the production of live

television and its recording onto video tape or other media such as SSDs, or for the

acquisition of raw footage for post-production. The design of a studio is similar to, and

derived from, movie studios, with a few amendments for the special requirements of

television production. A professional television studio generally has several rooms, which are

kept separate for noise and practicality reasons. These rooms are connected via 'talkback'

or an intercom, and personnel will be divided among these workplacess

site
The site is located in kochi. The total coverage area of 110 acres. Access from kochi-panvel highway

PROJECT FEASIBILITY
Kochi is famous for its malls, showrooms and shops. And the people on a holiday mostly prefer to go to these malls or theatres to spend the day.
But at the same time Kochi temporarily hosts many exhibitions like ‘Cochin Bienale’ and “lokame tharavdau’ and film festivals to which thousands
of people from different parts of the state and the country comes where they display arts and exhibit different forms of media. From this, it is
evident that people like media and wish to involve in the process. So a permanent Media centre where they can get access to all the media they
love and to involve will be a great attraction and there will be a constant flow of people to the centre all throughout the year. This will also
enhance the culture and adds to the city’s social and economic development.

SITE FEASIBILITY
The site for Media Centre is located in Kochi, Kerala. Kochi is known as the financial, commercial and industrial capital of Kerala.

about 10 television companies which have broadcast all over the state and outside kerala and more than 20 local braodcasting
television production companies also. Therefore a media centre in a city like Kochi where media is flourishing is the most suitable
location.
SCOPE
Kochi is known as the financial, commercial and industrial capital of Kerala. Viewership of news bulletins contributed to aro und 52
percent of the total television news viewership in the southern state in 10 years (2007-2017). Kerala is a place where media is given so
