Introduction to IOQM
IOQM is a prestigious competition in India conducted by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India)
that focuses on computational thinking and programming skills among school students. The aim of IOQM
is to identify and nurture young talents in the field of computer science and informatics.
Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the first stage of the Mathematical Olympiad
Programme in India. Only those students who qualify IOQM are eligible to appear for the RMO, the second
stage of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Eligibility Criteria
1. Students born between August 1,2004 and January 1,2011, and studying in Class 8,9, 10,11or12, are
eligible to write IOQM 2023.
2. The students must be eligible to hold Indian passport. Provisionally, students with OCI cards are
eligible to write the IOQM 2023 subject to conditions.
3. The student must be residing and studying in India since 30 October 2021 or earlier OR must be

4. The student must not have qualified(or scheduled to appear) class 12 board examination earlier than
30 October, 2023.
Exam Pattern
In the 2023-2024 cycle, the selection to the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC)
will be accomplished in three stages.
Duration: 3 hours
The answer to each question is an integer in the range 00-99. No negative marking. OMR-based exam.
Composition of the paper: 10 questions of 2 marks each; 10 questions of 3 marks each; 10 questions of 5
marks each.
2. Second stage exam : Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)
Duration: 3 hours
Number of questions: 06
Number of questions: 06
1.A student has to score at least 10% of the total marks of the IOQM 2023 paper in order to be eligible to
appear for RMO 2023.
2. Such students enrolled for one of the classes 8,9,10 and 11 will be classified as category A student and
enrolled for class 12 will be classified as Category B student.
3. There are approximately 30 regions in India and from each region, the top 200 students from Category A
and Top 40 students from Category B will qualify for RMO 2023 and 5 additional girls under Girls’ quota.
Preparing for the Olympiad
Geometry. Inequalities.
● Major problem areas are algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory.
● Problems involve a high level of difficulty and sophistication.
● Difficulty increases from Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) to Indian National Mathematical
Olympiad (INMO) to International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
