LESSON TEACHER AREA
PLAN DATE & TIME OCTOBER 17, 2023; 1:00-3:00 PM QUARTER FIRST
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the main layers of the earth’s
interior , including the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust.
B. Performance Standard The learner shall be able to describe the primary composition of each layer of
the earth’s interior, providing information about the materials and elements
present.
C. Learning Describe the internal structure of the Earth (S9ES –Ia-j-36.4)
Competencies/Objectives
IV. PROCEDURES
ELICIT “ Game Time” STRATEGY
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Reveal the words that are asked or describe in the following games:
presenting the new lesson
1. 4 Pics- 1 Word 3. Guess the Word
2. Pictoword
ENGAGE “Name Game” STRATEGY
B. Establishing a purpose for the Give the name of the following symbols of elements:
lesson o Fe (Iron) o Na (Sodium) o H (Hydrogen)
o Si (Silicon) o O (Oxygen) o Ti (Titanium)
o Ni (Nickel) o Al (Aluminum) o Mg (Magnesium)
o Ca (Calcium) o K (Potassium)
EXPLORE
D. Discussing new concepts and INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION
practicing new skills #1 “CRASH LANDING ON YOU” STRATEGY
Guide questions:
1. What element is the most abundant in the Earth’s crust?
2. What elements make up most of the mantle?
3. What is the special feature of the upper mantle?
4. How did scientists come to know that the outer core is liquid?
E. Discussing new concepts and 5. What materials make up the inner core?
practicing new skills #2
6. Is the inner core solid, liquid, or gas? What keeps it in this phase?
7. Compare the inner core and the outer core.
Oxygen is the most abundant element in the Earth’s crust.
The elements silicon, oxygen, iron and magnesium make up the
mantle.
The upper mantle has with it a soft weak layer called the
asthenosphere, which is capable of flowing. This property facilitates
the movement of the lithospheric plates.
The scientists were able to show that the outer core is liquid due to
the fact that S- waves cannot travel through this Earth’s layer as
proven by the S-wave shadow zone.
The inner core is mostly made up of iron and nickel.
The inner core is solid. This is due to the very high pressure that
keeps it compacted together even if the temperature is really very
high.
The outer and the inner core are made mostly of iron and nickel. The
outer core reaches a temperature of 2000OC. With this temperature,
the iron and nickel melt thus, this layer is liquid. The inner core has a
temperature as high as 5000 C. It is compact despite of the very hot
o
temperature because of the very great pressure that keeps this layer
in the solid phase.
EXPLAIN
F. Developing Mastery ORAL RECITATION
(Leads to Formative Assessment) “PICK A PAPER” STRATEGY
Guide Questions:
o Which elements are found in not just 1 layer? Identify to which
layers they can be found.
(Ans. Fe – crust, mantle, core; Si – crust, mantle; O – crust,
mantle)
o Aside from elements, hot rock is also found on Earth. In which
layer/s can it be found?
