SECTION - I

1. Attempt any SIX of the following : 12

(a) State the difference between MMF and magnetic force.

(b) Write Faraday’s laws of electromagnetic induction.

(c) Draw voltage triangle and impedance triangle of R – L series circuit.

(d) Define power factor and give the significance of power factor.

(e) List the types of FHP motors.

(f) Write the applications of autotransformer.

(g) State the various losses in transformer.

2. Attempt any THREE of the following : 12

(a) Derive the equation of self and mutual inductance.

(b) Derive the equation for transformation ratio of transformer.

(c) A coil having a resistance of 100  and an inductance of 0.05 Henry is


connected in series with 100 F capacitor across a 250 V, 50 Hz supply.
Calculate :

(i) Voltage across coil

(ii) Power factor of circuit

(d) Explain the working principle of single phase AC motor.

(e) Describe the working principle of single phase autotransformer.

3. Attempt any TWO of the following : 12

(a) A capacitance of 20 F and a resistance of 100  are connected in series


across a 230 V, 50 Hz supply mains.

Determine :

(i) capacitive reactance

(ii) impedance

(iii) angular frequency

(iv) circuit power

(v) current and draw circuit diagram

(b) Describe statically and dynamically induced emf with neat sketch.

(c) State the starting methods for induction motor. Explain any one method.

amplifier.
